Funny thing is though, the guy that plays him opened up a pub in my own wee town of Ardee. McCreanors pub at the top of the town.

No he just opened it up after it was refurbished.

Doesn't own it, although most people didn't even know who he was, or what he was doing.

Still can't get excited about the series, watched it last week and was only slightly interesting.

It's like that old series 'The pretender'...

I enjoyed 1 or 2 eps but the series looked like it was going nowhere fast. It was cancelled wasn't it?
