guitar restringing problems

i just restrung my electric guitar with "super light"
d'addario guitar strings. they all tuned up fine
except the 5th (0.32) string. the tuner recognises
it as an "a" yet it sounds crap and way out of tune.
it sounds like an "e" note to me.
    your help is greatly appreciated,
    thanks.

    Tune it by ear.

If you have a microphone, grab a copy of Audio Phonic's Guitar Tuner. It is very accurate, and it can pick up all notes from all octaves, unlike most 'physical' tuners I'm aware of. And it's freeware.

Fret the 6th string at the fifth fret and compare it to the open fifth string. Tune the fifth string until they sound like the same note :D

If yer still having trouble I sometimes find it easier to play the harmonic at the seventh fret of the D string (which is an A) and then play the harmonic at the fifth fret of your A string. Retune your A till they match. The reason this is easier is that your left hand is free to retune, so you can hear the physical note change in real-time.

Pull the A string away from the neck of the guitar to remove the slack, then play the open string and tune it up until yer in tune with "Whole Lotta Rosie", the greatest song ever to base itself in the key of A. :D

thanks for all the help guys.
it took me a while to get back to you.
yeah, the 'a' tuned fine after a bit of stretching.
however, my electric never seems to tune properly,
especially the g-string. if i tune it with the d-string,
it sounds way off in comparison to tuning it with the
b-string. i end up neglecting it and playing my acoustic
    instead. it gets frustrating.

    any ideas here??
all your help is greatly appreciated.

Could be your intonation. Basically, the gauge of string you use, it's height off the fretboard and the length of the string all have an effect on the tuning of your guitar, if set incorrectly, your guitar will be intune on some fgrets and out of tune on other frets

Check out Fender's setup guide or Gibson's setup guide for advice on how to intonate your guitar. You will need an electronic tuner. Good luck

    thanks doctor j.

could all that still be wrong even if the guitar is brand new?
it was happening from day 1.
also the E (6th) buzzes when played.
    is this the same problem?

No, that means your action is too low. Raise it slightly by adjusting the screws on your bridge.
