    Folks,

Ther is proably somewhere better to put the thread but you can move if necessary.

In the last couple of days there have been pop up messages plaging me. Two mainly - i've attached a ss of one to the thread. Now my question is this....is there a security setting i can set that will stop pop up adds appearing or is this a new boards.ie addvertising campain????

    Running WinXP PRO and IE6.

Go to Control Panel, Administrative tools, Services. Scroll down to Messenger, stop and then disable it so it never runs. All these ads are being sent to your PC while it's on the internet via Windows Messenger. Disabling it should stop the ads.

PS. It has nothing to do with MS Messenger for online chatting etc., so don't worry about disabling it.

    Ok,

Now everything i do seems to encourage these ficking things to appear on my system. Currently there's 3 of them down there. All the same adds. I've even turned on the firewalling on the networking section and set the security to high.

    Any more ideas??

    Stop visiting porn sites.

Another thing you could do is download the Google toolbar, it stops pop-ups. My life has been so much easier since I installed it.

Also, are you using Kazaa by any chance?

Better browsers such as Firebird have built in popup killers. If you can't part with IE, there is also a good popup killer and an adblocker that comes with Tweak-XP, which is a must have prog for anyone with Windows XP.

It's times like this... and threads like this... that make me want to yell.... OPERA!

    Get it. Use it.
It's got a pop-up killer with nice easy options.

Well installed Popup sweeper and its doing its job.

The google pop up killer doesn't seem to have any affect.

Opera - thats a browser right? dunno if it'd be worth 30E....I like my software free :ninja:

So is anyone else getting this poxy banner for dating....and no...i don't visit porn sites...and NO...i'm not looking for a date.

Get adaware from lavasoft. It'll purge your machine of ugly things that cause popups in the night.

    OPERA

Firebird is completely free and, at the risk of hijacking another thread for the opera vs. firebird debate, far better than Opera

It's sounds much cooler too :D
