Just wondering, why arent more people using Power Mac's like the G5 . They look class, have serious power and a good OS, heard great thing about them too. I didnt realise how powerful they were till the other day. Just wondering

Simple. Because they're far too f!cking expensive!

cause there a rip off, cause not all games are designed for them and cause you can't typically go out and built one yourself. I think there quite specialist and have a niche market.

I have to say that 'herself' just bought an iBook, and its feckin class for the money.

2KG(12inch screen) with CDRW/DVD for well under a grand, when everything else a little cheaper is well over a KG and a half more.

For power with low weight they are the way forward. I popped one of those Airport Cards in there and off it went against my router, very very sweet and slick. Everything is integrated and works really really well.

I have to say, that I'm almost thinking of buying a powerbook meself.
    Regards, Paul

lack of games support, too pricey, little control over the specs.
    bollocks to macs.
    most definitely a niche market

Macs are expensive because they're not the main player in computer sales, and also because of all the design work which goes into them. When did you last see a laptop as beautiful as a powerbook or a desktop as slick as a G5?

Having said that, they're really not much more expensive than brand name WinTel machines, there used to be a massive price gap. I've been a wintel user all my life until i bought a powerbook G4 in April, and it's a fantastic machine.
So long as you're not a hardcore gamer, you won't miss a thing about PC's, although there are more and more games being ported to mac OS. And if you have a new mac with a decent amount of ram, you can just run virtual PC for games!

I don't understand why people are so scared of macs, OS X is much more intuitive and user friendly than any windows OS. Maybe it's because we've all grown up using PC's in school and work, and are afraid to try something new.

I think its because people like to fiddle around with their computers and upgrade/change hardware and software.

From what I've seen Macs just aren't as intuitive to do this with.

I had a performa couple of years ago. Personally it was a pain in the ass. The machine itself was top... The OS (7.5 - 8.5) Was just dandy!

It was software! I had to order from england all the time if I anted anything. I had to pay double the price of the pc cost as well. Back then clones were allowed so alternitives existed.

But the new machines seem top class spec wise.

My main problem would be lack of support for current Windows based hardware and network issues, and even in OSX this is woefully apparent... my boss in work has the top of the range 17" Powerbook G4, and while its pretty easy for the beginner, flies along at any task and looks amazing, for someone like me to use its a nightmare.. you go from "haven't a clue" sensibility to the complete opposite (the underlying bsd scripts), plus it didn't detect any of our printers in work (panasonic workgroup printer w/ intel print server & a laserjet on a windows share)... has a nightmarish proxy setup (at the last count I found three different areas to change the settings)... overall not worth the money or effort.
