What happened to "The Sin Eater"?

I'm a UGC Unlimited member and I’m in there a lot. I read their sh1tty promo magazine with it’s endlessly positive reviews and look at their trailers. All this, added to the publicity from the TV spots etc., and I had myself ready to see this movie (known everywhere else as “The Order” http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0304711). And then… nothing. It disappeared and is nowhere to be seen. No more trailers, no mention of it anywhere. A proper anti-climax. So, what happened? Anyone? A user comment on IMDB mentioned something like this happening in California too. Very strange.

    It was that bad.

Got a week's release because of contracts

What does because of contracts mean?

I don't believe the It was that bad excuse. I've seen some terribly b0llox film last more than a week in the cinema. Plus I'm not sure it was even out for a week. Or maybe I just missed it somehow.

Certain cinemas companies & also distributers are contractually obliged to exhibit "x" number of product per year. If they're running low or want to extend runs of films they know will be bigger, they put in a "plug" for a week's run, thereby contractually fulfilling their obligation to run x number of films.

So say you've got Matrix 3 coming out & you've also got Sin Eater...

You're contractually obliged to show 2 films for a total of 8 weeks, your going to put on sin for one week & run matrix for seven...

I was in Vancouver, Canada last month. The movie opened in the cinema a couple of blocks from the hotel where I was staying on a Friday, we went to go see it on the following Thursday but it had disappeared - it didn't play for a full week.

when we are on the subject, the same thing happened me a couple of years ago, when working in the states. A film called the wisdom of crocodiles was heavily advertised and then disappeared without a trace.

Anyone ever hear of theis one??

No, never heard of it, but it's a bloody great name! Here's the appropriate IMDB link It actually sounds fairly interesting and Jude Law is a capable actor. Oh well...
