National Soccer Stadium

There is a thread in the soccer forum about what are Ireland going to do about a stadium since Lansdowne Road is a shambles and it got me thinking. We were supposed to be building the "Bertie Bowl" but it was scrapped because the government didn't want to pay so much for it.

The total cost was supposed to be around the €500 million mark and the FAI+IRFU were going to pay over €100million towards it leaving the total cost to the government at between €350-€400 million. The government didn't want to spend that on a stadium as there would be a lot of people complaining that it is not going to health, education, etc.

Then dsab posted a reply to the soccer thread about this 62,000 stadium which was built in Germany which has a retractable roof, the pitch can be moved outside the stadium, a large Cube shaped TV under the roof plus a lot more. The price of the proposed stadium Ireland was €500mil and the price of this stadium was a mere €180mil.

Both stadiums would be more or less the same size with the same facilities, why is the Irish stadium so expensive?

I really want to find an answer to this, is there anyone I can contact about this?

    Cheers.
