Anyone here currently using NETSOURCE SOHO broadband package with a Netgear DG 814 ADSL Modem/Router?

If so - can you summarise your settings for me please? Thanks in advance.

You cannot select PAP or CHAP, the modem detects this automatically ....

I had serious problems with firmware 4.8, and also with 4.9rc3 (gotten from Netgear france website), but I'm working just fine in 4.7 .. dont bother upgrading unless you are having problems where you are now....

    Guys,

Any of you that have the DG814, are you getting the full whack out of your line or what? I'm on Netsource as well and just got my DG814 today....... I can just about get 25-30k downloads from ftp.esat.net.

I have a Speedtouch 330 USB modem as well, and I hooked it up and tried the exact same download and it varied between 52-55k. I have used the settings suggested by Rancid but still the same results (I had originally left the MTU as the default, everything else was same as Rancid's settings).

Anybody got any ideas?? According to the status page, I'm using firmware version V4.8.1 (July. 17, 2003).

    Cheers,

    Smidders.

My downloads are always good... mostly around 50-52k.
Never had a problem with that.

My only real problem at the start was maintaining a connection.

    Rancid,

Cheers for the reply - not much help but thanks anyway ;-) Out of interest, what way do you have the RIP settings on your router?

They were disabled by default on mine - but I'm not too sure that they should be disabled completely.

Smidders... sorry I had only good things to say about my d/l speeds :)

My RIP direction is set to Both.
    My RIP version is RIP-1

I'm not too sure why they're disabled on yours???
Just as a matter of interest.... how many pc's have you connected to the router?

    Cheers Rancid,

Will have another fiddle with the settings tonight..... No idea why the RIP stuff was disabled either - it was though. Maybe it's just a duff router  .

Anyway, ta very much for the replies!!

    Hmm..... duff router??

Well.. the one I'm using now is a replacement router that Netgear support sent me after hours on the phone to them trying to work out why it wouldn't let me stay connected.
My original router was in some way faulty.

Anyway.. have another go and see if you can get it sorted.
Try changing the MTU setting.... that might somehow stop the RIP settings being greyed-out?:confused::confused:

I also have the combination of the Netgear router and Netsource. Does anyone else have to keep switching it on anf off in order to recover the connection? I have to do this about once a day nearly. The connection to my computer just suddenly stops but after switching on and off the router it is back up flying again.

Well, fiddled a bit more - actually put 4.9RC3 firmware on it as BigEejit had mentioned earlier in the thread. It seems to be a bit more stable with that on it. Downloads are still a bit up and down, but that could be all down to the whole 'Netsource' thing....

I still think the MTU settings are a bit off though. When you change the MTU size in the GUI, does it only change it WAN side, or is it both sides? Also, with the USB modem I have, I can use Cisco VPN client to connect to work and use an app called 'NetSupport Manager' (pcAnywhere type thing) to connect to other machines in the office LAN. The VPN connection will connect fine with the Netgear, but when I try and connect to anything on the office LAN, it just sits there looking at me.

Should the MTU setting be fairly standard among users or will it be different for everyone depending on their needs and what hardware/software they are using? If it is fairly standard, is anyone out there doing what I'm doing - what MTU are you using?

    Cheers,

    Smidders.

I got connected with Netsource at the start of this week (Hello Broadband World!!!!) at last, and I've had no issues with the DG 814 to date.

I stuck with all the default settings and I get consistent d/l of around 50 - 55Kb/sec.

It's too early to say if the netgear box is behaving itself or not, as I'm only getting to use it in the evenings after work, but I'll bash the hell out of it this weekend :D and see what happens.

I have Netsoucre and the DGB814.
Works pretty okay now but had some initial problems with it freezing at least once a day.
Solved the problem by moving it from the press it was in to a cooler area, and it's been running rock solid for the past 3 months at full download speed (well thats after 3 weeks of throttling, but back to 54K/sec now)
