Reading the threads on this forum, I have noticed that quite a few of you read/mention the (expanded universe) Star Wars books.
I want to get one or two, and am looking for recommendations.
However, I don't want to read anything that is off on too much of a tangent if you catch my drift. In other words, I want to be familiar with some of the characters etc.

For a start i'd definitely go with the Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn. If you like them, the X-Wing series by Michael Stackpole are great

The Han Solo Trilogy is good too, they tell a good story of Han's background

most of the new jedi order books are decent but be prepared for some serious shocks to the star wars universe.

my fav has to be the xwing series tho, i just like corran horn's character. (i jedi was pap tho)
