Moving the sky

I'm moving house... well, moving into a rented house at least. I wanted to get my Sky kit moved to the new house so I wouldnt go nutty from not having all those lovely channels. I got a few opinions from a local installer, turns out taking a whole new sub out is likely to be my cheapest option as putting a quad LNB on either of the two existing sky dishes on the house is gonna cost me (they said) €150. So I'm leaving my old digibox & dish at home, cancelling my old account and getting a fresh install done.

Problem is, can I get sky installed in the rented house without access to a phone line? My box at home is never plugged in to the phone, although it was used during the installation. As you can understand, I don't want to get a phone line installed for the five minutes it takes to setup the box as I've absolutely no use for a landline and dont want to piss away the bones of €200 getting eircom in. :(

yes you can but you'll pay for it. Sky will not geive free installs etc. unless a phone line is connected for the first 12 months

bring your current box and just get a dish installed

Wot Mossy said, you have to have the line plugged in for the 1st year, so a phone is mandatory for Sky now.

So the cheapest option is set up your existing dish and box on your new premises.

A Quad LNB is about €80 and simply clips into Sky minidsih. No realignment shoud be needed. Then connect up the satellite Grade CT100 coax.

I thought Sky did a special moving deal. Ring Sky, not installer.

looks like I was getting well & truly hosed for the quad LNB then.... Hadnt thought of bringing my box & getting a new dish installed, good thinking chaps :D

Maybe I will give Sky a call... maaaaybe I will...

If Tony's within earshot, could you give me a price for installing a new dish?

    sorted...

"Don't forget to take your digibox, remote and scart cables with you when you move. We'll arrange for an installer to reconnect you for £40. A new minidish and cabling will be installed in your new home and your existing digibox connected. You are responsible for obtaining all consents required (e.g landlord's consents) before installation. An additional installation charge will be payable by you to your installer if your installation is not standard. You will be advised by your installer about these charges before your satellite system is installed."

does the 12 month phone line connection apply with that moving deal

I bloody hope not :( I've technically had a phone line connected to my digibox at home for the last 18 months so surely the 12 month term is up and wont start again in the new location as it's the same contract. Just hope this is the case...

Thanks for the reply Tony, guess I'll just have to give sky a buzz in the mornin.
