Finally it looks like their going to do something to O2.ie so that it will be faster and better.
    Dear o2.ie user,

In order to improve your user experience and to add additional
functionality a major upgrade of the o2.ie portal infrastructure
will take place from midnight till midday on the 4th October.

During this time your email (both web and pop3), dialup and
web based services on o2.ie will be unavailable. All incoming email will
be queued but you will not be able to access them until service is restored.

We apologise for any inconvenience these improvements may cause, and look
forward to your continued use of the new o2.ie portal.

If you should require further assistance, please call o2.ie Internet
    Support on 1740 from your 086 mobile (19c per call) or 1550 924086 (74c
per min from Eircom or Meteor & EUR1.08 per min from Vodafone). We are
available 7 days a week, from 8 am to 10 pm.

    Yours sincerely,

    O2.ie Technical Support.

Why are they taking down the the mail server to upgrade the website?

Its about bloody time. Hopefully it will fix more bugs than it creates!

Well perhaps there is more than just simple upgrades going on. Maybe o2 are doing more than just cosmetic changes?

please please God help them make it more stable. I use the site several times a day and every day I get login errors and java script failures followed by me trying to jetison my laptop from a fourth floor window.
Also a return to a more comprehensive ste similar to the old dol.ie along the lines of eircom.net with news headlines and tickers and such like. One stop shop and all that.

Ye the O2 internet sevices are full of bugs.
i think alot of it probably happened when they changed from dol.ie to o2.ie. my account worked perfect before that! from then on i had loads of problems. the only thing that really worked right has been the free text messages(500 a month!!!!).
Also a return to a more comprehensive ste similar to the old dol.ie

i used to think the old site was really good, worth having as a homepage.

Sums up my experience too. Dolly was usable and fast, the new O2 one was a disgusting bugfest.

The staff in O2 didn't care either.

Are you sure it's back up? Still getting this:

"In order to improve users experience, the o2.ie portal infrastructure is undergoing a major upgrade, and web based services will be unavailable until later today (October 5th)

POP3 email, dialup services and WAP services, have all been restored."

cool, had a quick look around and they've managed to get it to display properly in mozilla

Can't check the SMS thing yet, the message text box used to steal the cursor focus, so it made a game of cat and mouse out of entering the mobile phone number.

Has anyone had any problems getting their O2 email on their phones built in email? It connects fine as usual but can't find the server almost immediately. I'm using the internet apn connection by the way. It used to work before the upgrade.. sniff...

Well WebText is back online. It`s much improved. They now have an AddressBook. BUT you can only send 250 free texts a month. Any more and they charge you. On the positive side, at least the site is now nowhere near as slow as it used it be.

Beware - texts that I have sent using the "new improved" site have taken anything between 30 seconds and fifteen hours to be delivered to phones that are switched on and waiting. Indeed, a couple never arrived.

It also seems to like delivering them around 04:30!

For the moment, you should probably not assume that the messages have actually been delivered as expected.

The upgrade is finally complete and to be fair to them the site is lot quicker but still a little buggy. Its a nice stop gap measure until they completely re-do the site.

    :p - we'll be waiting!

Was just about to ask whats changes they made... Its the exact same from previous experience, little faster maybe, just maybe though.

Good. I'll be glad when it stops telling me I have zero messages left and I need to input my security code

argh! i had trouble getting onto GPRS yesterday too- the only time i actually had anything to download on it.

I think once the upgrade is completed we should mount a campaign and get back the full 500 messages/mo . This was one of the reasons i got o2 in tha first place.

Atleast they got rid of that stupid websms thing at the end of all text messages sent- probably in response to peoples use of other programs that ppl use to bypass having to login 20 timse on the o2 site.

well the inclusion of some change that most people wouldnt notice.

Corporate users have a better range of options now and the added phone books on the SMS apps.

Also there are some other little suprises that no one here has got yet.
