    It's expensive as it's the same as having 2 line rentals to pay plus you still have to pay for your internet service and calls.

    Have u checked whether you can get Broadband?

    ISDN is far better than PSTN. It has near instance connect, a faster more reliable connection and lower latency.

    Web pages appear much quicker. Its less than two single lines.

    If you can get ADSL you are better off with that.

    consider whether you're a light or heavy internet user

    ISDN line rental €37.50 plus FRIACO
    eircom 25hours offpeak => 9.99 = 47.49
    eircom 60hours offpeak => 19.99 = 57.49
    utvip xl 180hours peak&offpeak => 24.95 = 62.45

    Broadband
    eircom PSTN line rental €22.50
    broadband (depending on provider) approx. 48 or higher
    total €70.50 or higher

    (note: I don't want to start the discussion again whether line rental should be included or not, fact is ISDN price includes line rental so it has to be included in broadband as well for a fair comparison)

    My opinion: for a light to medium internet user with little or no peak time useage ISDN is the best choice while broadband is certainly a good choice for a heavy or mainly peak time user

    Also pay attention to the fact as a ISDN customer you can't avail of the self install option = no free install, no free modem
    (eircom scr..ing their best customers!!!)

    If you're fairly certain you can get broadband you're better off cancelling ISDN and go back to PSTN before ordering broadband as this is the only way to avail of the promotional offers available

    If you can't get broadband you already have the next best solution with ISDN

    If you have ISDN and want to get bb, just ask them to downgrade your line first (€25) then order the self install.

    Cheers Guys,

    All I would really use the ISDN line for is downloading MP3's, Trailers etc during "off-peak" times.

    So it would probably suit me then to have ISDN rather than Broadband, yeah??.

    If I do not subscribe to a "flat rate" monthly package, is there any other charge, other than the charge for dial up??.

    Sorry if that does not make too much sense, but I'm sorta new to all this high speed tech.

    Could you also give me an example, if I was to download an MP3 of approx 5megs, how long would that take with an ISDN connection.

    Cheers Guys.

    Cheers Guys.

    using one isdn channel you could download that in 10 minutes or u could use both channels and download it in 5 mins (using both channels costs the price of 2 calls)

    Welcome to d15 :)

    All I remember about ISDN is asking about it in an €ir*** store. And coming out horrified at the price. Of the line rental. And of the call cost. I'm not sure, but I reckon if you're gonna be online a lot, it might just be worth if anyone supports flatrate for ISDN (there were a few posts about this previously, try a search ;) )

    It is what it's.
