Yeah, i would be interested if there is any channels we can watch more sports. There has to be one or two foreign channels available.

I done a search on this forum an I found a thread about a Croatian channel shown premiership football but it ended up not to be showing them. Any channels like this available.

    Eireboy

There is loads of Football Out there FTA but a Motorized Dish would be handy as you will need to be spinning the dish nearly every hour to view games.

Heres a site which will tell you where they are

:D:D:D If I knew how to make a site it wouldn't look like advertising as much as lots of people have sites on there sigs, mine is just a load of crap. Anyone know anywhere that gives tips on making a proper site?

Sky Digital Satellite is at 28.2' East. In Order to pick up these foreign stations listed on that site the satellite will have to be pointing to either

    Arabsat 2d 26' East
    Eurasiasat 42' East
    Siruis 2 5' East
    Arabsat 3a 26' East
    Hotbird 13' East
    Astra 1 19' East
    and others

Moving the Dish is risky business . You have been warned.

I spent weeks until i could visualise where each of them are and created markings so i could change over within seconds...

As i dont use a sky box and never will i am not sure whether it will pick up these satellites. Surely there is someone out there that will be able to confirm whether they can, Try searching for Arabsat or Hotbird Topics for more info

Could I buy a satellite and connect it to a room upstairs so I don't have to take the risk of moving by satellite?

    Could I buy a satellite
How much money do you have?
It may just fit in a room?

I'm sure you can ask SES-Astra for a price list! :D

I'd say it'll depend how fat your wallet is. The Astra 1A is now in retirement doing a bit of remedial work. You could contact SES Global who'd perhaps sell it to ye for probably a handful of million on the condition that you collect it yourself! If you're only looking for parts, a huge deep trawl of the Pacific ocean may get you Astra 1K, though some of it might be beyond repair and ye'd have to let it dry out to prevent water damage, though the salt water may have already done damage. The Russians perhaps have a few Gorizont satellites that are in hugely inclined orbits nearling the end of their life that perhaps they could give to ye for a knockdown price of a few hundred thousand euro (same conditions for collection would apply to that of Astra 1A). Eutelsat also have the F2 IV. If you want a more recent satellite, we're talking big big bucks here. Astra 2C I'd reckon will set ye back easily a nine figured sum, eight if yer dead lucky and a good negoatior. If you feel like giving a well travelled satellite a good home then why not get the Astra 1D -it's had a bit of a turblent life crossing from point to point over the clarke belt over many different places. It's only got a few years left I think (about five?), €70 - 80 million would be the asking price for this I guess.

Putting it in a room in your house could be tricky. For a start they weigh several tonnes and are massive. Something the size of two average big sports halls might do the trick until you try and activate the solar panels which will need even more room. You might be able to get away without out using the solar panels, but plugging the satellite into the mains will see your next bill go through the roof and the ESB may insist on installing a three phase power supply. It's a matter of weighing up your options.

Needless to say, I'm being sarcastic!:p

No more hassle aligning the dish though. Just point it at the big thing in the spare sports hall. Won't even need to splash out on a meter.

... I assume originally you meant that could you have a satellite TV receiver in an upstairs room? Yes, that's perfectly possible. However unless you want to wacth some of the free-to-air and/or Sky Digital channels as well with it with nothing else, you'll either need a second dish alongside you current Sky minidish, or you can replace your Sky Minidish with a larger dish that can pick up one of the earlier mentioned satellites, along with a second LNB* attached to pick up the signals required for Sky Digital. I don't have such a system at home myself (multisatellite is about the only thing I haven't got, bar broadband which isn't available where I live!), Tony or Byte may be able to tell you better info.;)

*LNB = the thing with a (normally) white cap that sticks out of your dish to receive the satellite signals reflected off your dish.
