Windows 98 & Clicksilver

    Good morning all.

I just got my ZyXEL P630 ADSL Modem yesterday. I`m not worried on missing out on the new promotion, just want to get up & running.
When I ordered Clicksilver I understood Windows 98 was good enough. Only when installing did I find out that Windows 98 Second Edition is required, as there are no drivers available for this modem for Windows 98.

So I phoned Tech Support, who were helpful as always. Looks like I 3 choices:

    1. Forget it!
    2. Update Windows (advised to upgrade to Windows 2000)
    3. Buy a new modem that will work with Windows 98.

I am reluctant to go for option 1.
Of the other two options, which if any, should I consider?
If I do go for 2. how much & how easy to upgrade?
If I go for 3. again how much & which modem?

I am a novice when it comes to PC`s, so an easy option would suit, even if it costs a little more. I have waited three years for ASDL, so after paying through the nose for three years, I don`t mind forking out a once off expense to get going.

Hope there some other early birds reading the forums this morning, as I would like a clearer picture before I go to work.

    Thanks in advance.

PS. I feel like a child on Christmas morning after opening a new toy to find there are no batteries included!

    god your online early today

    anyway

the best way to install a new os is to format the drive, this will ensure you dont have about 2 gig of useless files on your drive,

what spec pc have you got???

I was afraid you might say that. :o(.
    Is this difficult?
I have a Gateway 700 Mhz Athlon, 128 Ram, 20 Gig Hard Drive with about 9 Gig to spare.

    Hey!

I just examained "System Properties" & it says Windows 98 Second Edition! 4.10.222 A!

Up to now, I looked at My Computer, About Windows and it just says Windows 98. Maybe all my worries are beginning to fade, disappear even!

    if you still have problems

i found the drivers available for download here

you system would be okay to installl win2k, you would need more memory to run winXP, with both os's you need to install service packs and patches before you go online, so hope you get 98 to work

Those modems work with 98se. It's the 630-11 right?
    Go to http://www.zyxel.com/support/download.php
Select DSL CPE in product category and then select the 630-11 in the model name.
I've installed those modems loads of times on 98 and they've always worked for me.
I don't know where they got the idea that it doesn't work.
