Hey guys, I remember a thread here about one of ye trying to start a metal radio station, but it fell thru. Well, all might not be lost yet. Me and two other guys are starting a heavy metal show on Trinity FM (Trinity College's radio station) on saturdays from 10am until 1pm, starting on freshers week (last week of september). I'll be going into the college this weekend for training in the equipment. I know its only 3 hours in a week, but hey, its better than nothing.
Anyway, the timeslot has yet to be finalised, so I'll keep ye posted in the meantime.

Playlist will be really good. The three of us have a pretty varied taste and we'll be prepared to give anything decent a lash anyway. PLUS, I have the backing of the guy who owns the sound cellar in dublin (great metal store for anyone who doesn't know it) so I'll have access to some great ****.....that said, I have almost 400 CDs and a $hitload of stuff downloaded off the web too!!!
My idea of decent stuff would be the likes of Meshuggah, QOTSA, Slayer, Sepultura/Soulfly, Machine Head, My Dying Bride, Anathema, Anthrax, NIN, Misery Loves Co., Devin Townsend, G'n'r, System of a Down, Pantera, Amen, Arch enemy, Pitchshifter, Fear Factory, Godflesh, Ministry etc etc etc. As for the other lads, they're into other stuff.
Anyway, after I've done the training and gotten things in order with the other lads, I'll fill yizz in. And I'll get yizz the frequency too, all important. And if things go well, maybe ye could make some requests too.
I know its only one 3 hour slot, but its better than nothing, doncha think?

Don't worry, I'm sure I could squeeze in 'Bullet ride' and/or 'Only for the weak' somewhere :D

A MUST song to get is

    'Dark Tranquility - Nether Novas'

One of the greatest songs Ive heard, and I have heard quite a few.

Another few great bands which deserve at least one song:

    Arcturus
    Opeth
    Iron Maiden
    Sinergy
    Sonata Arctica
    Nightwish
    Megadeath
    Sentenced
    Dimmu Borgir
Old Mans Child (may not go down too well tho, this is an aquired taste :))

I'd be pretty much on to play a bit of everything, whether I particulaly like the bands or not, or whether I've heard of them before or not. Fear not, ye shall not be disappointed :D

Went into the College yesterday and had a go of the equipment with the other guy who's doing the show with me. Its handy to use really. Fade this in, fade that out etc etc.
Anyway, we've actually been given a second slot to do, on sunday night from 7pm until 9pm (just like the ol' rock show on 2FM). Bit of a bonus that.
Gotta question for ye though - the radio station needs sponsorship to keep it up and running for longer, but alas, where to get this sponsorship? I reckon I could go a-calling to places like HMV and Golden Discs etc, but has anyone any other ideas that I might not have thought of???

Any song in particular? Maybe 'Spiders' or 'Suite-pee' or maybe 'Toxicity'???
Oh yeah, Pornapster, I didn't mean the names of other stores. I meant, sort of, other ideas.

Some form of auction or something.

Or a raffle. Try lay your hands on something like a guitar/amp/lots of beer and sell tickets for it. HAndy way to make money. Or a sponsored head shave.

Try hitting MCD or Aiken for concert tickets and raffle them off or have a tolled phone number - there are so many gigs which sell out so quickly, there's bound to be a demand for that.

Nearly all ready to roll fro the morning. Its on 97.3 by the way. We'll be on in the morning at 10am, then tomorrow at 7pm. Can't wait. I've been looking into that list Pugsley, and I'll try to throw out some stuff from it. But it won't be $hite anyway, never fear. It'll make a nice change to have some decent music on the radio.

I know what yer thinking, but I like the attitude of this song. The prodigy are probably the only dance-orientated band that I think have rock sensibilities. When they play live, they lash in geetarzz, drums and the whole nine yards. They are as close to industrial metal as you can get. To not play them would also mean that I shouldn't have played NIN, Static-X, Downthesun or Fear factory because they happen to use keyboards and samples too.
Anyway, bit of variety doesn't hurt.
Playing again tonight from 7pm to 9pm again. Gonna throw some Emperor into the mix, maybe some Dimmu Borgir and deffo System of a Down (sorry gucci, didn't get to fit it in yesterday).
