Roy Keane and van Nistelrooy

Anyone else find it strange that Keane didn't defend van Nistelrooy on two occasions on Sunday? Firstly he kept out of the trouble on the pitch and didn't seem too irked with what was going on - in the past if a Man Yoo player was being shoved around the pitch, Keane would have been first in to back him up, but he didn't seem too bothered.

Then, after the game he refuses to deny or play down claims that van Nistelrooy goes over too easily and was partly to blame for the situation instead, opting he opts for a 'no comment'.

thats because he learned from the saipan incident and how can you defend a player who goes down on a gust of wind when it suits him

Because he has the common sense to know that he is the captain and if he had run in then there would have been a mass brawl.

Well either that or he thought "let him finish what he started".

or he thought, im on a yellow i better not get involved and being stupid like Viera was and getting sent off (again).

No comment is a smart comment to make when you don't know all the facts which no one at the time did. Well no one on the pitch.

Exactly, he did not see everthing so no point in talking about it. Kept a very level head at the weekend.

Kean said nothing becaus it was the sesible to do with emotions ruuning high.

either that or he was too upset to say anything after Viera took his crown as the most sent off player in Premiership history with 8 reds keane and vinny jones are on 7 with martin Keown. Two Arsenal Players in the top 4 says all about their behaviour:D

Did I miss something ? Since when has Roy Keane done the "sensible thing"

    ? ? ? :D

I agree that Keano did the sensible thing, but did anyone else think it strange that he didn't try to murder Viera for shoving him out of the way, when he was going for RvN??

They respect each other as players and as fighters

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,269 ✭✭✭p.pete

I would say that Keane respects Viera as a player and a fighter. Old men are usually wise about picking fights and he would be on to a loser against Viera.

How did u come to this conclusion?

Based on several things. Firstly Viera is obviously bigger then Keane. Secondly Keane is saying to anyone that will listen at the moment that he is slowing down and basicly isn't the man that he used to be. This becomes more obvious when you consider that before you would have expected him to be jumping at Vieras throat like the fighter we all know.

Seriously Yop, do you think Keane could take Viera in a fight in his current state? I think Keane answered that one for us.

current state of what? he is not in a wheel chair and if u think that just because a lad is taller than his opponent means that he will win, then you are way off the mark.

If I am correct I do not remember Viera going for Keane either, so then you could take it that Viera is afraid of Keane and though better of it.
I meet Keane about a year ago and even though I am "bigger" than him I would be far from trying to take him on, the man is a rock

It would make an interesting poll as to who would win if we could get people to vote without manu/abu bias. I'd vote for Viera certainly but I can't gaurantee that I'm thinking objectively. I would imagine Keane has more actual fighting experience, Viera is more of a mistimed tackle kind of person....

This is boards, that does not happen ;)

That is it I suppose, I would say that Keane has had his moments in Mayfield. Only way to sort it would be to have a head to head, will u arrange it and I will organise the half time oranges :D

Are you suggesting you kissed/met/shifted/scored with his dad last year.. maybe this is the wrong thread.

As for the PADDY and KEANE thing, give it a break.

The fact that Keane got man of the pitch demonstrates that in fact he is not slowing down. Just more sensible in his play and reactions to heated moments.

enough about said game until disciplinary hearings etc.

I'll presume you mean man of the "match". This has nothing to do with heated moments, even if it was it is usually selected a few minutes before the end, so Keane taking a back seat at the end would not have been a consideration either way.

As regards being slow and winning man of the match - Paul McGrath should surely be proof that these two elements are not related.

Keane didnt get involved cause it was handbags , if it was real fight or if Shearer or Haaland were there keane would be in swinging :)

As for Viera's record considering Kean is 32 and Keown is 37 i think he'll smash the record for most red cards ever,he's only 27.

Who gets red cards at the highest rate i.e. red cards per games played. I'm pressuming Jones got them at the higest rate but that's just speculation on my part.

    And what about Alan Smith?

Obviously the words of a rightly ashamed Arsenal Fan.

Think Vinny Jones managed to launch a successful movie career on the back of it - there will at least be a video out of it, footballs nastiest moments or something like that...

rumours are going strong that Utd players and management refused to condemn PV4 because he's going north at the end of the year.

Dont really believe it myself but anythings possible i suppose.

keane isn't the player he was a few years ago fair enough but to say he is gone soft in his old age is rubbish. he's not gone soft he just got sensible!!!

It certainly wasn't common sense that got him his reputation as a hard man, so if that is a new feature of the man then yes he has gone soft. Add this to his ailing football skills and you have a man who is on the way out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,470 ✭✭✭Mr_Roger_Bongos

I agree. And the debate on who is the better player Viera or Keane will continue into the future because each player has great games, where they really stand out, and that throws everybodies decision on who is better. One match Viera rules the pitch. Two weeks later Keane looks like a man possesed for the whole match.

If i remember correctly, during the charity shield, after being dispossessed by Viera, Keane then sprinted half the pitch to put an inch perefect tackle in on Viera, and he regained possession.

    (P.s. KEANES BETTER!:D )

Wasn.t bad for a player with ailing skills who is on the way out .:D

Certainly wasn't - there's life in the old dog yet. I'll bet he still has a few miss timed tackles and a red card or two left in him.

its a pitty he wont wear a green shirt again we could do with him in Switzerland

So you dont believe the "he,s gone soft" rubbish either.:D

Maybe he Keane is just watching his behaivour? I dont know, I wouldn't have gotten involved in the brawl to be honest, I would be over the moon now if I were Keane + Fergie, looking at all the Arse players with possible suspensions. I am an Arsenal supporter, and I am slightly discussed by the whole thing....

I'm only getting carried away, you may have noticed on other threads I claimed stephen gerrard should try to be more like keane in terms of behaviour and tackles.

Gerrard is fired up enough as it is. I honestly think Keane's reaction to the incident on Sunday is irrelivent, what was he expected to do? run in and grab Parlour or Keown and hit 'em a wrap?

Wrong end of the stick there, what i meant is Keane used to have a very bad reputation and lots of sendings off but has calmed all that. Gerrard needs to do the same, concentrate more on football in certain situations (would be a bonus if he managed to do this while he still has the faculties unlike Keane:D)
