Well I got it yesterday. Not the Netgear one I had hoped for cause Elara was out of stock. :-/

This thing is driving me nuts though!!! I searched here for some help and I have all the settings right etc but still no joy.

It claims to be connected to the net but it when I try to open a browser window it goes nowhere.

Oddly enough I may have had a slight bit of success. By accident I still have MSN on one of my old computers and it connected to the net. I also noticed that AIM connected when using Trillian but that was it. Nothing else no joy.

The router has set all the settings on the wired computers with it's proxy settings etc but no luck with or without them...

    When I run a Diagnostic I get:
    ADSL Line Pass
    PPP Test Pass
    ISP Connection Test Fail
    DNS Test -

There's nothing wrong with my username and password. I typed them out again into my normal connection to see if they worked and they did. I didn't forget the @iolbb. I have VCI 35 and VPI 8. Encapculation is PPPoE LLC, Authentication Chap.

Anyone any ideas? I'm seriously regretting buying this. I really don't see why it shouldn't work. I've used another pretty much no name brand router(no wireless) and it worked straight away. I thought D-Link were a pretty big name in Networks etc. I'm rather surprised and disappointed at this.

No problem with the network (wired or wireless).
    :(

Hmmm... Thanks! The forum looks good.

I tried getting the firmware updates last night and I tried the link you gave me. Same one as before.

I can't get through to it though. It appears to be down. :-/

Hopefully that'll do some good if I ever manage to get it.

Huh... That was a lot easier to do than I thought it was.

I think I spent too much time looking through settings etc.

Anyone who is getting it to connect but can't access web:

Turn off the proxy that it adds automatically to all your machines etc etc. Add a default Gateway to your network connection of the Router's IP-192.168.0.1 and hey presto it works!!

That was simple. Wish I hadn't of assumed it knew what it was doing with the proxy and assumed it had added itself as the default gateway.

On checking ipconfig before and after my change both times it said the default gateway was 192.168.0.1 but it seems to work if you set it yourself and not by the proxy!!

    :D

    Congrats dude!

    so it wasn't Dlink's fault :D

Ah well in all fairness now it was.

They settings that the Router puts on all your computers appear to be wrong basically!!

If you mean I was wrong to trust DLink then yes! :p

It's actually working ok but it's very irritating sometimes.

I've noticed that it seems to reset after a random amount of time. Maybe reset is a bad choice of a word. It seems to simply die.

Can't ping it, though the wireless connection appeared to be still intact but everything about it is dead. No net nothing.

It has happened about 3 times in 3 days really. After a couple of hours usually but in about 30 minutes last night. Maybe more maybe less.

I updated to the latest firmware before it started doing that too.

Can't ping it, i can, no problems!

"though the wireless connection appeared to be still intact but everything about it is dead"

you mean you your laptop can detect the connection but you can't connect or use internet?

    no probs with reset either

the only problems i have is

    1. I use it at home, and i have a PC(ethernet) and Laptop(Wireless) connected to it, and they can't see each other on Network Places :( can't share files

    2. now this is very bad problem! it doesn't stealth me! i have FWs on both computers, when i run a test(http://www.pcflank.com/scanner1s.htm) all the results are "unstealthed" this really scares me! when i connect to internet directly through modem, i get "stealthed" i guess i have to config Dlinks firewall

Yeah I get the same un-stealthedness...

What I mean by reset is that the router simply stops responding and stops doing anything. As I said it happened a few times. What usually happens is I notice the net connection is dead then a minute or so later my wireless card cops on and realises it's not connected and goes searching.

If I do a general area wide scan i detects the network but can't connect to it. The wired network also dies.

I have to physically pull the plug on it to reset the thing. Odd...

i sometimes can't connect to the router either and i restart and then i can connect, and i had couple of disconnections too not with the wires though

also another thing that i don't like is when my router was connected to my PC i had Internet Gateway coming up on network connections but it doesn't anymore, but who cares internet works :)

i also had a problem where wireless was detected, but i couldn't use internet or anything, but i found out it was WEPs problem

all in all i have only 2 things to fix, FW and that i can't connect to the router sometimes, if i find any solution, i'll let you know

    Strange strange very strange!

I do believe I've found the root of my problem. It's Trillian! I've noticed that when I start it the whole internet connection freezes until it can connect to the servers it's gonna connect to.

I tested my theory last night though. I left the router on after about 6/7 hours use on the net and it's working fine this morning. All because I didn't use Trillian.

Does anyone else find that a little strange? Perhaps it's some settings somewhere in the router but if it gets rid of the router freezing then maybe I'll have to live without it, or perhaps upgrade to Trillian Pro. Must test if it causes the router to crash. Or even MSN messenger. I'd be rather annoyed if I couldn't use ANY IM software with it.
