Have still to download Firebird at work (dial-up, and usually can only connect for a few mins at a time), but in the meantime IE's status bar has gone missing. Anybody any ideas on how to get it back?

Ehm, maybe your problem isn't this simplistic - but... view >> status bar (there should be a tick beside it)

If its windows XP, then its slightly more problematic than that.

Close all browser windows bar one. Then go to View => Ststus bar.

Then reopen IE. However, if you use File => New window or [CTRL + N] to open a new window you'll loose it again.

You can stop this from happening if you enable the status bar in windows explorer aswell.

Clicking on a link to open in a new window will retain the status bar regardless, as will opening IE a new instance of IE.

Is that specific to XP or is it a feature of IEv6?

Shoulda mentioned that it keeps going awol. Checking it in Explorer seems to have brought it back for good.

    Cheers!

    Edit: Windows Explorer that is.

I think its XP - there's even a MS Knowledge Base article, and it says "this behaviour is by design"

    try this
Open My Computer, turn the bar on, open Folder Options and set all folders alike.
