This picture (attached below) has just been put out by eircom's press office.

    The caption as supplied states:

'Gandalf' ( Lord Of The Rings fame) arrives on horseback at eircom
headquaters in Dulbin to officially launch the company's nationwide
broadband promotion. 'Gandalf' is welcomed by Cathal Magee, Managing
Director, Eircom retail. The promotion, which runs for three monthsfrom 6th
October to 6th January 2004, offers broaddand access, with free connection,
free modem and one months free rental for those who sign up fo 12 months.

Could this be the same Gandalf who has been known to post here on occasion? It's a most unusual name that I cannot find anywhere in the phone book.

I think we should be told.

    :-)

Could this mean the rat is DEAD (or at least to retire from his marketing duties)?! Maybe he'll head off to Greece to help them out over there.

Thats fitting... they need a magician to pull themselves out of their death-spiral.

Something tells me that Gandalf has bigger fish to fry.

    Two things:

    1) sorry about the crap quality of the pic. As originally supplied it was way too big for the limits imposed on attachments here. I don't have the necessary software to reformat it so I gave it to an overworked colleague to 'resave it as less than a meg' and he overdid it. Way too busy to bother him again.

    2) the caption posted is cut and pasted from the text eircom put out, so the general level of illiteracy is theirs, not mine. I think you should all know.

That was copy and pasted??! Jesus Guacamole! Hope their service isn't like their spell checker.

Well go and ask eircom at their 'headquaters' in 'Dulbin'.

Dulbin? That's in Middle Earth somewhere, isn't it?
