That annoying Banner

I see that the annoying banner is gone for good after plaguing us for the last 2 months.

Does its departure mean a climb down from sky ie cards will stay active or did a slap on the knuckles from the ITC force them to stop?

    Anyone know what will happen?

Yes it's been gone a while now.
It would seem that complaints have got rid of it, what with a million or so UK viewers depending on Sky for their ITV and 4 via v1 cards.

It could also mean that sky were under pressure for un fair competition perhaps as they were badgering a cornered market to subscribe which would amount to illegal predatory pricing or something similar.

Theres always the likelyhood too that the switch off is being delayed while behind the scenes negotiations are on going for a replacement to the BBC as backer of the solus system-thats just my speculation though.

I still think that there will be a comprimise worked out where the UK government will persuade Sky to provide new FTV cards to license holders in the UK for a fee.
Or just leave the old encryption system working pending ITV's switch to FTA at some point.

I read on digital spy that it could be sky have woken up to the fact that (in the UK) if they turn off the cards then the majority will move to freeview. It seems likely sky will introduce another freeview system to give licence holders ITV/CH4/CH5.

This is the general info I picked up on digital spy thread "what happened to the big turn off".
