Just finished watching this on Sky Movies. Its been an age since I have seen it but it is one of those thought provoking films that leaves you with a warm buzz after its over. Tom Cruise to me has always been one of those Hollywood 'Gold' actors who sell well but rarely do films which make you think. This is a real exception and I wish they made more of them.

If you haven't seen it, go rent it. If it was on again right now, I would re-watch it.

I know its based on some Spanish? film and one of the female leads also starred in that version, haven't seen that one - anyone know the name and if it is as good?

Abre Los Ojos, Penelope Cruz starred in it as well as the English-language remake.

I actually watched this on DVD on Sunday night. I had seen it at the cinema when it was released and thought it was ok. However when I rewatched it I thought it was absolutely class. Top notch performances (esp from Cruise and Diaz). In my opinion I think Cruise is one of the best actors in the US today.

Was immensely sad at the end I thought.

I have both versions on DVD. The remake is pretty much a scene-for-scene translation, even using the same camera angles in many places, yet Cameron Crowe had the audacity to put "Adapted for the screen by Cameron Crowe" in the opening credits. The original has a much more convincing dream sequence of an empty Madrid than the empty Times Square in the remake.

Yes Vanilla Sky was the best film of last year in my opinion.
    Extremely clever .
A classic and the soundtrack is brilliant.
Cruise is making some really good stuff now,Minority Report, and this.

When I saw this I was so disappointed. I thought it was the biggest cinematic waste of my time (excepting AI). It just never seemed correct in it's emotions and seemed devoid of characterisation, especially in Cruz's role. I thought Diaz was good though, she's beginning to show that she really is a good actress, and not just a perky blonde.

For the sake of contrast I would like to see the original. It can't be any worse, and probably is a lot better.

The film was kack. It's like when you're young and you have to write a story for school. You're not sure how to end it so you just say "and then I woke up and everything was back to normal".

    Agreed, thought it was crap.
Penelope Cruz was terrible in it and the end was just idiotic!

Aww lads you lack imagination! Tech Support!

Brillant ending, very clever film a most see, even if only to see Kurt Russells reactions at the end, priceless.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, as I've stated repeatedly over the last few months here. Some people just seem to react badly to it for some reason. I've yet to hear someone say it was ok, seems to be a love-hate thing.
