Options for replacing fax line with broadband

I am hoping to sign up for eircoms broadband service in October. At the moment I have 2 lines, a telephone line and a dedicated fax/internet line. I am hoping to get rid of the fax/internet line and let the saving go some way towards paying for the monthly broadband costs.

The dedicated fax line is handy and would be missed if we had to revert to the fax machine being on the main line. I was wondering is there any service available in Ireland where you can sign up for a dedicated fax telephone number and have the fax fowarded via email to your computer for printing out.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated

Try eFax - don't know if it's any good, but your post was just sitting there gathering dust, and I had some time to kill.....

Well you can get Fax machines that can autodetect the type of call coming in. So if the incoming call is a fax, then the fax machine responds to it, otherwise it ignores it and lets the phone ring.

Of course if you get lots of Fax's all day then this wouldn't be great as it would block the phone line while, sending and receiving Fax, however in a SOHO setup it should be fine.

So you would have one phone line that has a DSL filter with the DSL router sitting on the DSL part and the FAx and other phones sitting on the analog part.

tomk, i had a look at the efax site. It would do the job alright but I just wouldn't need the fax enough to subscribe for it. Also they only can supply a Dublin number so given the fact I'm based in Galway people might reckon I'm double jobbing or have some lenght of a commute.

Bk, I've dusted down the user's guide and sussed out the necessary adjustments to answering rings etc.

Thanks both. Just have to wait now to get around to getting the broadband in.
