Alcohol of some sort (ethanol?). Get a cotton bud and wipe it a bit, then rinse with water. Repeat as necessary.

I'd be wary of trying acetone, as it might make sh1te of your pants.

Keep away from methanol though, that's nasty carcinogenic pox. :)

Don't blame me if your jeans crumble though! ;)

Unless its really noticeable I'd leave it altogether. You'll make sh*te of them and then a marker stain mightn't have looked so bad compared to what your left with....

It should be okay once you resist the temptation to drink it :p.

Would white spirits/turpentine/paint stripper get it out?

Lynx works good enough for me not sure about what would happen to the jeans though. Persil used to haev some kind of a careline for stains i remeber.

    Stain Devils are usually good.

What you do is find the right one and read the ingredients - sometimes that gives clues.

Permenant marker - so usually organic solvents - smell the marker - if it's fruity then it uses esters - it it smells terrible and says no Xylene on it then alcohols may not work, but wd40 may
    evil nasty things to try:
acetone - "nail varnish remover" (note: if you spill acetone on your skin it is adsorbed into the blood and carries any thing dissolved in it in to your bloodstream - never get coloured nail varnish remover )
carbontetrachoride - "dab-it-off "(can't remember if poisnous tetragenic or mutagenic) CCL4 - similar to chloroform
isopropanol - "head cleaner" - great stuff - not as toxic as other stuff.
wd40 - nasty mix of volatile petrolium compounds - like many of the above will be adsorbed in to the bloodstream on contact - not sure if applies to wd40 but many mineral oils are carcenogenic - sump oil from a car is lethal - can only be disposed by burning or refining/distilling..

NOTE: Many of the cleaning products that you can buy in supermarkets , if you were to use them without protective clothing in a work environment could consitisute a breach of health & safety regulations !

If it is black marker - avoid bleach - it will attack the cotton fibres, carbon don't usually oxidise as well as organic dyes.

Best thing to do is to make a nice smiley face out of the stain :)

Alternatively you could soak the jeans in nitric acid and then leave them in the sun to dry - after the first wash all that would be left would be the stain itself.

Disclaimer: Everything I say is a lie - including this statement.

There's this soap called Vanish, should work.

...if the marker is black and the jeans are blue, just die the jeans black.

Try toothpaste...the acid in it could burn the marker off.

Sorry just have to point this out.

    Toothpaste is Alkaline.
Think about it - Acid would attack your teeth...

Good Thinking Batman - you are right about dying the jeans black - it's the only colour that you can guarantee.

Synthetics don't always take the right colour, for natural fabrics dying usually means binding to a hydroxyl group (or amino) - with synthetics this can vary from no bonding points to binding to a ring which changes the color a lot.

It's only a small amount of acid, or course, just enough to remove tartar and stains. When when you finish washing your teeth you rince all the acid and stuff out with water. :)

I wouldn't use CCl4. It's nasty stuff and you would just be asking for trouble or cancer.

I think there might be a clue in the word permanent

I found Oxypads took permant marker or skin, wood, concrete, glass, cloth and most anything.
Also what i found to be great aswell was for lifting stains from most anything was isopropyl alcohol (ipa), its the same stuff they use in fry cleaning iirc.

No. If you get it on your skin (or God forbid, in your eyes) it's just as bad as drinking/inhaling it. Terrible stuff, we've the fear o'God put into us with that stuff.
