I am in Leinster and having recently got sky digital (previously had cable), I seem to have lost 2 channels - UTV and Channel 4. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to tune in these channels on the digibox, and if so how? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Both channels are not available yet here on sky digital, you need terrestial aerial to pick them up.

I heard that utv maybe coming on sky digital package shortly, heard nothing about c4.

They are scrambled and only available with a version two free to view card also known formerly as a BBC card ( which is no longer scrambled ).

The free to view cards were only available to those with a UK address and not a Republic of Ireland address.
Unfortunately they are no longer being issued.
Many on this forum got them from friends or relations in the U.K.
they had to get their contact in the UK to ring Sky their and "pretend" that they had the Irish digibox so as it could be matched up with the new UK free card.

The only way to get those channels now is to go through the same process but you would have to ask your UK contact to take out a UK subscription for you.

Note: Some older Version one UK sky cards are still working but they are due to be switched off shortly.

Also not thet UTV and Ch 4 are *not available* on a republic of Ireland Subscription :(

Thanks for the helpful replies guys. Just one more question - is it possible to tune in ITV or does the same restrictions apply?

So let me get this straight. If I lived in the UK and I decided I wanted to watch ONLY ITV, C4 and 5 and by means of satellite (for whatever reason), I would not be able to get a free card? I would have to take out a sub to Sky and pay for channels I didn't want?

I have just installed a sat dish and digibox (pace sky box, no card, UK epg) to get the BBC's in the clear. For some reason I am currently getting ITV London on channel 103 and I have tuned in some of the ITV regions.

Does anyone know how or why it is available at the moment and how long for?

    Cheers

regarding the pace digibox, what model was it , and where did you purchase it?

While "soft encryption" was used on videocrypt, Sky's Analog system (i.e. the decoder is needed, but not a valid card) AFIAK not so far on Sky Digital's videoguard.

    So

Either ITV has or was FTA (clear) when you looked (It has been on occasion before) or has changed to "Soft Encryption" (Digibox only but no card.)

Was / Is there *REALLY* no card in the bottom slot?

..... Must check my FTA sat receiver on ITV.

Obviously if the ITV is gone FTA you would bget no nag banners, but it was still encrypted last time I checked (and since nag screens went).

Hmmm... If you don't live under a bridge this is iunteresting.

The model number is 2500n. As I write I am still able to see ITV (and all the regions). This I can do with or without a card. The card I have is the old one but as I say it's working without any way. Sorry but for certain reasons I can't say how I acquired the box.

If this turns out to be something to do with the box itself I do have a second and might be open to bids :)

Seriously though, is anyone else able to see itv in the clear?

I currently have UTV, C4 & C5 on my version 1 FTA card.

No message of death for about 2 weeks

I presume everyone else is in the same boat ??

    yes.
However some v1 cards had been turned off.
This may have been fixed in the usual way by some since sky have relented a bit.

Nope NO ITV region is in the clear.

Are you SURE you don't live under a bridge?

To correct my previous posting (and apologise for misleading) I double checked my setup.

I am only getting ITV (all regions) with the card inserted. I checked again the second box I have but I don't get ITV on it so I can only assume that I am getting ITV because of the particular digibox and card and where they came from.

    Sorry again for raising hopes

    Cheers
