Need help with game name!

I used to really like a game about 12-13 years ago but can't remember the name - it might have even been in Japanese. The only place I ever saw it was in a little arcade on lower Rathmines road (on the right as you head into town).

It featured a spaceman character and scrolled horizontally - although some of the later levels scrolled vertically. There were loads of different weapons, jetpacs and armour to pick up. Some of the armour took the form of little red drones that would buzz around your head. There was a desert and I think a jungle level.

Sorry if the description's a little vague - any help greatly appreciated.

Well, if it looks like this, then that would be particularly ironic, given that I would've been playing that same game, in that same little arcade, some 12-13 years ago...

afraid not Krusty - thanks anyway. Sprites were smaller and more detailed. Intersting coincidence though.

That fact that the scrolliing changed from Horizontal to vettical makes me think that it may be Salamander

Although, fron the rest of the description, I'm not so sure....

Thanks for the help - nothing fits the bill. It may not have even been on the MAME platform. I remember sidearms - twas a bit too manic for my liking!

    I found it on http://members.tripod.com/mindcaster/mame/mamek.htm
which has loads of MAME thumbnails. It was called Pycho-nics Oscar - no wonder I couldn't remember it!

I have a disc of ROMS and it was on it but with no sound - I se from the net that there is a version with sound though.
