I notice AIB have added a feature to their on line banking whereby you can put whatever reference you like to appear on the statement of the person to whom you transfer money...

Literally anything can be put in the reference!

Someone I know got 5 cent transfered and now has " From your Lord and Master " on their statement:D

I think everyone on boards should give me €1 each i don't care what you put as the ref as long as i get the money.

Yeah, but on their business online banking service you can on the web site, put in the reference of your choice...
But from your Lord and Master might cause problems with a revenue audit:D

I use that AIB online banking too.. the only problem with the transfer is you can only transfer money to Irish accounts.. It's good for checking your balance and stuff like that though..

Online banking is the f*cking cheese. Saves me trooping into the bank time and time again.

The one thing I find strange is why AIB are so ken to promote this? My parents are charged for all the usual sh*t by their bank, including "Non-automated transactions" (i.e. going to the teller). If they charge for non-automated transactions, why are they so keen to keep people out of the bank?

Because on-line banking only needs about 20% of the staff to run the same number of transactions or more.

I'm a big fan of the telephone banking, banking 365 etc. saves me a load of hassle and the people on the phone are typically dead nice, i'd say you could have 10p or 100,000 grand in the bank and they would treat you the same
