The DIGI DIALER is an interesting device. It is grossly overpriced @ €215-00. However it does illustrate that it is possible to dial UK 0800 .... numbers from outside the uk. As far as I know every 0800 number has an equivelent standard number. If only we could discover these numbers we would be able to do our own authentication of UK cards from Ireland.

Some numbers, such as Tescos 0800 number can be dialled from Ireland by using 00800 instead. AFAIK this is an international 'free call', but I guess Tesco have to set it up this way. I know also that most US numbers that are toll free in the states can be accessed by dialling 00 1 followed by the number (though these are not free, charged as standard US calls).

Does that Digi Dialler also mean that a non UK box can safely 'phone home' as well as order box office events?

It may well phone a number in the UK, and when this is 'answered', it is connected through to an extension which dials the UK freephone number. Quite clever, really - it wouldn't cost anything to connect the second call (freephone numbers), and the non UK subscriber pays for the inbound call.

Presumably they have their caller ID blocked, too, or else Sky could very easily track callers through this exchange and know they were outside the UK!

I can see its appeal for those living in Spain or other foreign speaking country in that you could order box office.
    Thats assuming it works.

But over here in Ireland, you would want to be stone mad to get one for that price.
