Italian Job remake? And WHY?

Earlier I was flicking through the channels when I saw an ad for The Italian Job- Starring Mark Wahlburg (sp?)!

Has anyone else seen these ads? Does anyone know more about the film? If so, is it going to be like most remakes and be utterly dreadful? The original is a classic, and I would have been happier if they'd left it alone.:(

I saw it a while back..

Its not really a remake of the orignal it has the same name its about stealing gold and it has some mini coopers in it thats petty much where the similarty ends...

I hate Mark Wahlburg he's a **** actor... On its own its not all that bad (there have been plenty of worse movies around this year). Dont go to see it expecting it to be anything like the orignal movie. Its more of a movie with a nod to the orignal (in the same way that other movies reference previous movies or clasics).

The car chase sceans are extreamly disapointing though... You cannt slate this movie untill u have seen it...

Well infairness a complete remake would probably be crap... at least it looks good. Looking forward to seeing it infact.

Someone has to say it, it might as well be me.

"You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"

Ah, such a film. I hate remakes.

Seen it when I was in America. Not a great movie but it kept me entertained. You could do far worse with some of the other movies out this year.

It's not really a remake and only has 3 references to the original, the start is in italy, theres minis in it, and mark wahlberg splurts italina job in one of his lines. There are some really annoying characters and edward nortons talent is completely wasted.

Yeah but didn't Edward Norton completely disown this movie? Apparently he loathed doing it and only did it because he was contractually obliged. So as much as I love his work, and have seen all his movies (bar "Death to Smoochie" because we never got it), I don't expect much from him here.

I generally loathe remakes as well, athlo' I didn't think all that much of the original "Italian Job" anyway when I saw it a couple of weeks ago.

saw it about a month ago. the only similarity between that and the original is the gold, the mini´s and the title. and it is actually a pretty good film, worth the watch, but dont try to compare to original.

My initial feeling was that film would suck as i hate walberg, but when i watched it i was suprised how good it was, kinda reminded me of gone in 60 seconds except it was good. Charliez threeon (sp) looks cool driving around in a Mini, though i dont think she was wearing one.

Edward Norton would draw me to this film, he is an excellent actor and made some fine films

If he has disowned then I'll wait for TV3 to show it in Autumn 2005

    The reason for the film?
To advertise those new mini's nothign more, its amazing how far the car industry will go to plug there products

    :p

It was like looking at an extended BMW mini (pun not intended) movie. It's kind of funny that BMW made the mini :)

Saw this last night and have to say it ain't all that bad as far as your typical heist movie goes. Some good action sequences in it.

Ok I saw this over the weekend and was reasonably impressed with it (for the type of movie that it is).

First of all, it is not really a remake. It's a heist movie, there are mini's in it and at the start of the movie they are in Italy. That's about it.

    *SEMI SPOILERS BELOW*

ITS NOT A REMAKE. Its got very little to do with the original, its kinda of a nod towards the original with a few little bits and pieces thrown in there for good luck. where it gets the title from is pretty much one line from the movie
"How do we steal the truck?"
"Lets do it like the Italian Job"

    there we go, explained!
