The live link to David Blane hasn't appeared on Irish Sky One Active. There saying on Digital Spy that It's on in the UK- so are we being denied another service?

    Yep looks like it.
I wonder is there any way around this? - Maybe by getting the UK version of Sky active with a FTV card and then quickly swapping to the irsh card??

I was just sitting here ****ing and blinding out of me about the VERY same thing. I am just SO sick of the way Sky treat us.

Just pressed the David Blane red button on my English sub:D

Nothing to write home about unless you want to look at his tatoo's...
He's just had visitors up there talking to him,

On a serious note, what a waste of money on sky's part:eek:

Yeah, I had it on again today for a while, but it's rubbish. I thought he wasnt in contact with the outside world but sure if he as visitors and stuff, what a waste of time!

I doubt if it's costing Sky much. As far as I can see there is only 2 or 3 cameras. One in the glasshouse and one on the ground looking up.

Anyway, I found something more interesting. I'm after painting the outside of the house so I am off to watch the paint dry! :D

Just goes to show how little $ky think of their Irish customers.

Channel 4 have a part in this too.

I tried going in through Sky One Mix, but it too froze my box.
Still, it gave me an excuse to turn my sub card upside down, and go through the FTA EPG! :D

a red button with David Blaine written beside it has appeared on Sky 1 Mix and it still gets me nowhere near the David Blaine thing :(

Yeah, I saw that. It makes it even more frusrating!

I've emailed Sky about this - I'd suggest you all do the same, despite the fact that it may be rubbish viewing - it's the principal of the thing!! :)

Irish subscribers get the red dot on Sky One Mix because there is no special Sky One Mix for Ireland (unlike Sky One).

My digibox (Sky+ v1) does not crash if I press the red dot on Sky One Mix, but there is no 'David Blaine' option when Sky Active loads.

Sky are useless when it comes to interactive tv in ireland...... The same for big brother and bbc interactive... They are nearly as bad as NTL.... Sorry if any of you are NTL engineers or work there but the service is crap

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,092 ✭✭✭ShaneOC

The BBC have been very good with interactive. There was only one or two things that were blocked. All should work now seeing as it's all FTA. They had the Test the Nation thing interactive last Saturday. Worked perfectly on an Irish sub.

Sky could do with taking a leaf out of their book.

David Blaine has given up his controversial stunt.
He was told that 44 days doing nothing in a box is not going to break the record which is currently held by Emile Heskey at 4 years:)

A reply from Sky! And a very orginial excuse!

    Here goes:

    Dear Michael

Thank you for your email about David Blaine and please accept my apologies
    for the delay in responding.

Unfortunately, viewers in the ROI will be unable to access the Interactive
facilities for the David Blaine programme.

The reason for this is that regulations from Regtel (Irish TV regulator)
prevent us offering this option to our viewers in ROI.

Thank you for your interest in Sky.

    Kind regards

    Angela Hart
    Viewer Relations

Does this mean that this 'regulator' will block all interactive options? Imagine he /she pulls the plug on active Champions league, Active Football, Cricket, Tennis, Snooker, Pool, Sky News Active & Sky Movies Active

    OMFG!

Reply back, its Comreg! And its only RTÉ and TV3 can use Comreg as cover for not broadcasting interactive stuff.

Remember, BSkyB is not regulated by Comreg, or any other part of the Irish government.

    Utter BULL.

I've passed that on the Sky, but I don't think I'll be getting a reply- I'd be more likely to be sued by them :D

I sent a mail to Sky quoting this reply and this is what I got in return:

Thank you for your email regarding the interactive services in ROI.

I am sorry to advise that these services are not available at present and no
indication of when these will be available has been released to date.

I apologise for the previous response you have been supplied regarding the
reason for no interactive service in the ROI.
It is my hope that these
services will be available sometime in the near future so please keep
checking the customer magazine and the customer information channels 998 /
    999.

In the meantime a live feed is available via the website
    www.channel4.co.uk/davidblaine <http://www.channel4.co.uk/davidblaine> . I
hope I have been of some assistance to you in this matter and should you
require further assistance then please do not hesitate email us at the above
    address.

    Ha ha ha .....

    "RegTel"?????

Sky barely listens to UK ITC/Ofcom the only folks with ANY ability to regulate Sky.

The ONLY aspects of Satellite (from ANY provider, pay or free) in Ireland that are regulated are:

    * A licence to uplink is required ONLY if uplink is in Ireland.

    * A big dish might need planning permission.

Sky is neither licenced nor regulated as an Irish Broadcaster.

    Who is "RegTel"?

1: Formed in 1995, Regtel is the Independent Regulator of the content and promotion of Premium Rate Telecommunications Services. Regtel operates through a strict Code of Practice which must be observed by all companies or individuals offering Premium Rate Services in Ireland. Regtel is a not for profit limited company and is financed by a levy placed on the industry.

2: What are Premium Rate Services?
Premium Rate Services are provided by companies or individuals on premium rate telephone numbers. These are sometimes referred to as Information Services. These Services are easily recognised by their unique range of prefixes; 1530, 1540, 1550, 1559, 1560, 1570 and 1580. The most widely used prefixes are 1550 (recorded) and 1580 (live services). The 1559 prefix is dedicated solely to adult services and is only accessible with a PIN number, issued by a Network Operator.

So The phone Line part of Sky Interactive (Which is nothing to do with Satellite) *MIGHT* be regulated here:
Please note that certain services require written authorisation from this Office prior to commencement. These services are listed below:

    All Live services
    All Competition services (including Scratchcards)
    All Children's services
All Virtual Chat/Dating/Contact & Message Exchange services.
All Services of a sexual nature
    All SMS services

Please also note that Network Operators will only issue Premium Rate Numbers upon receipt of the Regtel letter of authorisation.

    Permission conditions
Permission is granted on the information supplied in the application as received by this Office. Other than minor alterations to the approved service, permission for the service will be rescinded immediately. Each service must be applied for separately as each service is approved on an individual basis.

    See http://193.120.42.206/index.html

I wonder have all the "Providers" of premium phone services via Sky Interactive got Irish approval and meet the guidelines?

It might be that A key role of IARN is the provision of Guidelines in handbook format to advise members, consumers and service providers on:

Requirements to assure consumer protection when using national or international premium rate services

Procedures to deal with consumer problems arising from such services.
A mechanism, based on responsibility to the regulatory code in the home member state, is now in place in IARN member countries.

For further information on the activities of IARN and details of the Guidelines, visit www.iarn.org

The problem is with Sky that the Marketing folks confuse everyone by giving quite different things the same name.

but u must pay to watch it on channel 4 web site. Why should we if Sky Active is free for everyone but the Irish. Plus, I would never pay just to watch a guy stand around in a class box.
