I can't ping!!

Man...Esat support just get worse and worse. I just called them to ask why i am not able to ping any website, i even tried to ping the Esat server at 194.145.128.1

Every time i get a "request timed out", now they have this policy of not supporting anything in regards online gaming or ping times.
They say as long as you can surf the net and read email that's the extent to what they will offer as a service.

Can anyone help with this issue?, i have my firewalls off, i have Windows XP Professional with all the latest patched and updates and i have Norton Internet Security.

All disabled, i tried pinging various websites with no luck, has anyone else encountered ping problems on Esat?

Once again the support staff were very rude, the guy had an attitude and i waited 10 minutes to even speak to someone!

Now they are saying they won't discuss nor support online gaming and pings, that they won't offer no technical support....i also suspect that maybe they have very bad pings.

    Please help!

I feel sorry for you, i do alot of online gaming and have to suffer ingame pings to uk and benelux servers of about 100, but it has never gotten to the extent of having my requests timed out. I am on eircom by the way, i was on solo and when i heard starter had lower ping due to the interleaving i moved to that and no difference. It's bull****. Dunno where to go from here, eircom tell me there is nothing they can do.

Something has got to give here, the service all round from company to company gets worse. No point in abusing them as they appear to have this policy that if you insult or abuse them they can take action against you.

You just can't win...i'm a very patient person, but the level of service and communication from these companies is a scandal. It seems as if they all have the upper hand and can pretty much do and say as they like.

So who protects us?...who fights for us as customers?, without US they would not make the insane profits they do.

Your a monkey Richard. I can just imagine what your posts would be like in a PS2 vs Xbox va GC debate

i to cannot ping anything, request timed out permanently, however my ingame pings to uk CS servers are still 60 or so, and 40 to irish ones. so although nothing can be pinged thru DOS my pings are still the same when they really matter!

richard, does your connection sometimes seem to stall? as in no data transfer for up to about a minute sometimes?

I didn't type that, and i've never played PS2 or Xbox. As for the monkey stuff...look who's talking.

Don't forget that *I* was the one who was called an arsehole in the Netsource thread. Thus i got insulted first....yet one more example of double standards at boards.ie

YES!...it just freezes, no data movement. I also notice that it freezes on some web pages, and not others. Then if i later move back to the same web page it functions properly.

I also get a disconnection from time to time.

you can only get a reply if the other end lets you ...

msblaster only tries to infect IP's that reply - so I would not be supprised if lots of sites have turned off replies

try tracert instead - see how far you get.

and request timed out could also mean the network is busy

the whole point of TCP is that packets will be retransmitted if needed.

I'm dialled up to IOL and I can't ping within their network, looks like they're just blocking icmp within their own network because of the blaster virus, a few isps did it.

at least i know its not a problem with my comp then (the freezing), what i find helps is to tell DOS to constantly ping a site, and leave it running in back ground, when it freezes, wait about 5-10 seconds and open a new browser window, which seems to get all of them moving again. I'm sure its technically stupid, but it seems to work for me! :)

there was some odd stuff with ESAT and ICMP today. It is now working but I suspect that ESAT misconfigured a transparent cache and either fixed or removed it in the past few hours.

I've been experiencing both of these problems (the ping and the page freezing problems).

I just tryed traceroute and it's timing out too but again, no problem in games, etc

With the second problem, I find disconnecting and reconnecting gets things going.
