I'll check out Dunphy, and if he's no good, I'll just watch T2 or something else. Just got deliverance on DVD so....

    I don't have T2 on DVD. Hence, well... it'd be T2 then.

Tempted as I am to watch TV3 spending more then 25 cents on home produced programming not including wages or news shows, I won't be taking the plunge tonight.

There's always Akira Kurosawa's Dreams on TG4 at half ten or First Blood or Kelly's Heroes on UK Gold and TCM respectively.

I'm watching the Long Kiss Goodnight on CNX at 10. Haven't seen it in years.

I picked up the t1/t2 box set for €25 in extravision last month. Its proper bo, i tell thee. So if I wasn't going out in 30mins, I'd vote t2.

Dunphy isn't too bad so far... Little gaffe at the start ("here's Mundy and Joe Dolan with .... er..... a great song") :)

Nice idea at 9:30 to say "after the break.... SEX, and lots of it!". Can't imagine too many people flicking over to the Late Late!

I watched the opening mins of the Dunphy Show. He was a bit too quick to have a go at his detractors and give Gaybo a back-handed slight.

Then when he got down to business after Joe Dolan (who was class!) I flicked straight over to BBC2 where I've been following Restoration.

He choice of guests was'nt too clever (GAA bloke, some dull bird from NYC) the sound quality was quite poor sue to the venue (its hard to turn a cavern into a front room).

Pat Kennys Late Late was, by comparison like a old shoe.
Familiar and comfortable if you like that sort of thing.

    Mike.

Well now advise if Mr. Kenny and Mr Dunphy are listening.

    Mr. Kenny

Bring back your old set. Who is doing the sets in RTE these days? they are all square and triangular. Dreadful.

    Mr. Dunphy

I know you went on about the use of an auto que but emmm well they are useful. I mean even if you just put the Phone Numbers on to them so that you didn't have to keep looking at those cards your only supposed to use them for show, also who was you last guest, not the greatest person to go out on.

After all the talk, my god Eamo you just doing the Late Late On a different channel no matter how many times you say the word sex (Like an angst ridden 12 year old).

Also note how N2 are showing good movies for a change on Friday nights T2 this week and next week lock stock and 2 smoking barrels.

    Oh disappointing after all.

I think TV3 has put it up to the mandrians of Donnybook.

I think TV3's Agenda is pretty excellent.

Still, RTE has found a winner with Celeb Farm.

I think since obtaining the licence fee increase - it has really improved its public service broadcasting output.

Seriously. for all it's 42 years - "The Late Late" has an equal in the talk show stakes.

    Never liked Pat Kenny.

    Always liked Dunphy.

Having said that, I ended up mainly looking at the Late Late tonight. Dunphy just can't carry it on a tv show and also, as mike65 said, his venue was a REAL bad choice for his first show. It just didn't suit talk tv.

I think The Late Late will win this one, which is sad really because it's pretty pathetic.

Tried to tape Dunphy thru VideoPlus. Put in the number. It recorded The Late Late! My mistake or RTE conspiracy? I'll assume the latter, cos I'm rarely wrong...; )

i watched Judgement Day. brilliant film. thank you for remembering it for the poll :)

At the start of the show I thought Dunphy was a little bit agitated and nervous. Like a little kid not quite knowing what to do, and just trying TOO hard.

But, I found him to be clever and quick. You can only watch so much Pat Kenny before you start to fall asleep.

One part had me in stiches

"Join me after the break for sex, RAW DIRTY SEX"

I think when he settles down and becomes a bit more collected I would watch the full show.

I also thought the entertainment was great. Even though I would never listen to Mundy/Kitt/Dolan, they looked to be having a mad laugh. Fair play to Dolan - still able to put in a great voice.

Id say it was a succesful first night - Give it time :)

Don't worry its on tonight at 11:05.

    Kenny Live???? The Live Mike??????

RTE should have replaced Kenny Live on Saturdays a long time ago, rather then just waiting around for TV3 to do it.

RTE or TV3 now need a Saturday night chat show.

Also 2hr is too long for a chat show.

Yes, The Late Late Show will win as The Dunphy Show is just a Carbon Copy nothing new nothing orginal.

TV3 need to make more TV before I will praise them, or even let them give out about the Licence fee.

Coronation Street and The Late Late just won't do it for me. Its time for a change and TV3 isn't a change. Go back 10 year and you have RTE 1.

Hmmm everytime dunphy mentioned dirty sex last night i was reminded of a certain incident with Dunphy that proved completely baseless LOL

Dirty old man, didnt get into the prog to be honest, better things to be watching then the Late Late or dunphy IMO

I watched the first hour or so - I thought it was good once ED had settled down - His choice of guests wasn't great. Paudie O'Shay was great and but that slag from NYC and that other GIMP who thinks he runs dublin now - not a good idea.

The music line up was great - It's a really good idea to have unusual combinations of musicians jamming together - creates a really good atmosphere - you see they were really enjoying themselves.

All in all I'd say it'll last and ED will get better and better at it.

I think the big differance berween Dumphy & Kenny is guests:

Robert Fisk and Paudi V Westlife & Conrad Gallagher.

Dunphy won on easily. I think there is big room for a challanging and tought provoking chat show. TV's Agenda has done this with business and current affairs.

Television has dumbed down with imported dramas and home produced sfuff that is of poor quality.

I think if Eamonn Dumphy can have a show of relevence - he will be on to a winner.

Leave Celeb Farm contestants, Twink & Westlife to Pat.

The camera work on Dunphy was interesting - the (slightly ott) circling camera made it a bit more active, more movement...
And the wide shots with the lightweight guests and the super zoom on Bob Fisk for the serious bits.... though I guess his legs aren't as interesting as Candice Bushnells ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

I thought it was very old fashioned the way they zoomed right into all of the guest's faces.

I thought the Dunphy Show blew Kenny out of the water last night. Eamo was much more relaxed, and more 'into' it.

It needed an extra 15 mins at the end (just as that debate was getting interesting, they ran out of time). Sharkey was pretty entertaining as a first guest too...

    - Dave.

Dunphy had some very good guests on. I think that the "Celeb Farm" thing was RTEs best shot. RTE failed miserably.

People want good intelligent TV. I think - If Dunphy can stay away from the Westlifes and Conrad Gallagher - he is on to a winner.

Dunphys musical guests are also class - Mundy, The Frames & David Kitt.

I think that RTE moving its Prime Time programme for Celeb Farm - the alarm bells should be ringing for the mandrians of Montrose.

Yeah, agree completely. Last night was the first time I'd seen it and it was actually holding my interest right the way through. The Frames were class.

    Well done Eamo.

You can have a Celeb Farmer and get a bula bus more.

I supose it was my problem that I was watching.

I think both presenters are over rated.

    To RTE,

Well done you know how to use publisity and even get your name mention over and over again on the competition.

But you best quality is not allowing all viewers go to TV3 but also to N2 with Judgement Day and Lock Stock and Two Smoking barrels congrads.

My thoughts after two weeks is that RTE are going to have to seriously rethink the Late Late next season. Probably even before it.

For all the mistakes that Dunphy and the technical team make (which are all due to how new it is...they will get better), it's still far more compelling that the ****e the late late has become since Gay left.

Gay Byrne had no interest in pandering to celebrities wants. He had debates and he never scratched anyone's back unless he felt they deserved it. Pat Kenny bends over backwards to make his guests think they're more than they are and nine times out of ten, they don't even deserve to be on TV.

Week one, Dunphy gets Fisk and we get the best fifteen minutes of Irish TV talk show in years. The following week he puts on Ben Dunne and we get another good 15 minutes.

IMO, this is the beginning for TV3. They have to take this oppurtunity to continue to compete seriously with RTE.

Well its takeing them ****ing long enough.

TV3 if they had wanted could be the number 1 TV channel in Ireland right now.
