Possible crackdown on couriers

Dermot Lacey (last year's Lord Mayor) has submitted this for the agenda of the next meeting of the City Council Transport & Traffic SPC (to be held in December). Would anyone have an comments? Is there any formal / informal organisation among couriers?

BTW, I am the Dublin Cycling Campaign's representative on the committee
Item for the next meeting of the Traffic SPC meeting:

"In order to deal with the major safety issues relating to cyclists and cycling in Dublin that this Committee recommends that a serious Public Safety/Awareness programme be developed for Dublin City in co-operation with the Gardai and the Dublin Cycling Campaign to enable improved safety for cyclists, pedestrians and motorists given the increasingly dangerous situation that is occurring in the City.

The Committee further requests that an analysis as to what measures can be introduced, at Local and National level, to deal with the many dangers posed by couriers constantly seeking the shortest - and often illegal - route to their end destination".

    Councillor Dermot Lacey
