something just reminded me of something i noticed while watching pirates a few weeks ago.

while looking at the set and the lay out, it appeared to me that the harbour town where the film starts looks a lot like monkey island. i have no idea where that popped into my head, or if its even right, but did anyone else notice?
it was just the view of the castle on the ridge from where they were passing over a wodden bridge that did it, and that was one scene in monkey island that sticks in my head, and then there was the mansion on the hill and all that. then i forgot about it and enjoyed the film :)
or if anyone is going to see it and has played the monkey island series, keep a look out.
i think its possibly monkey island 3 but im not sure. been a long time...

Ron Gilbert (Monkey Islands creator) has widely acknowledged the original Pirates of the Caribribean theme ride as inspiration and source for much of the Monkey Islands look and feel. On occasion he's seen fit to lift actual scenes from the ride/film and place them in the game. For example check out the scene in Monkey Island 2 with the prison and the dog with the keys in its mouth. So perhaps it's just a case of the original 'borrowing' ideas back from that which 'borrowed' from it in the first place? :)

Tho for me anyway the town in PotC definetly had a feel of Melee Island (esp. the Govenors Mansion as you say). The bridge scene you mentioned remined me of the start of MI2 when Guybrush runs into Largo LeGrande (on a bridge strangely enough!)

I was thinking exactly the same thing actually its very like it, and Geoffrey Rush's character reminded me a lot of LeChuck...

I read this thread last saturday morning and went to see the film on Saturday night and I see what you mean it looks very like the games and I havent played them in years. If I hadent read this thread first I may not have noticed the similarity.

    Dam fine film too.
