OK anyone know about this...i have DSL and my line was tested and passed. I'm only 300 metres from the DSL exchange but my speeds are somewhat less then optimum.

Thus i was wondering if this has to do with the line itself?, like the copper wire of the line...it's very possible the line is quite old.
Even the box that you connect the line into has the Telecom Eire logo.

So i was wondering if Eircom would upgrade my line for free and put a new one in?

Or would i have to pay for that stuff?

What type of DSL is it? (RADSL/ADSL) and which provider?
Also, what do you mean by "speeds are somewhat less then optimum"

RADSL with Esat BT, 512/128....my speeds vary from 52-54K downstream and 12.8K upstream.

Since i am soooo close to the DSL exchange i feel i should be getting the full whack 64K.

That's why i was wondering if the quality of the copper wire was keeping things down.

52-54 are typical speeds to be expected on DSL. I'd say that the copper is fine. A brand new line may give you a very slight increase if even - those d/l speeds are quite normal.

Those speeds are fine for a 512/128 connection.
