/me cowers from predicted wave of abuse

    I might be interested.
Can you give me a bit more information though?
    Where is it based?
And a bit more info as to what i'd actually be doing?
    Also is there training involved?

    Cheers,

    Killian

You will be based in Dublin 3. Working for an ISP giving front line tech support to customers. Standard queries relating to Modem configuration etc....

You will be given training to bring you up to speed.

No experience required. Only an 3rd Level IT qualification of some shape or form, and the ability to start on monday.

Many of the people we have placed in these roles have been offered permanent positions at the end of the contract. Also it is valuable experience when trying to find work at a later date..

    Just a couple more questions.

It's 40 hours per week but what time of day are we talking?
Also, does it involved weekend work?
How long is the initial contract for?

    Killian

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,549 ✭✭✭The Brigadier

Rotating shifts. Latest you will work is 10. Some weekend work but you will get time and a half on Sundays if you are asked to work...

Best thing to do is ring me.... I have only a few spots left on this..

Now only looking to fill 5 vacancies...

    Oh..And sorry...

The contract is initially a 6 month placement.

You want graduates to do tech support? No offence to your job offer - I'm sure there'll be plenty of people who'll respond, but I didn't go to college for 4 years to be a front-line customer service representitive. That just sucks. Decent money though, I'll say that.

    Its an employers market ;)

Its not a nice life for grads these days.
Most grads i know even from last year are front line autograph signers at the dole office :)

Unfortunatly at the moment the IT sector is not particulaly boyant.

There are plenty of IT graduates pulling pints, waiting tables and working for their parents.

I completely agree. I was really commenting on the state of the industry. Nice to see Mary Hearney wading in and sorting out the situation by cutting any funding for R&D too.

Anyway, I'm really sorry for hi-jacking your thread. I think we should get back to people actually replying to the original post!

That is the way it is, I did not go to college and work over 6 years to push the dole biro but that is what is happening to people these days, especially in IT. It is good experience and will give you a good taste of how to deal with people

i wouldn't worry too much though if i was a grad.
Once you get your first jobs things will be a lot rosier after that.
It might be a good idea to take one of these jobs though.
Better to say you've worked in IT support than pulled pints if you're looking to get into another IT job.

Why insist on graduates though? They're the most likely to leave before their contract runs out, they'd certainly be applying for better jobs as they see them coming. They're also going to be far from appreciative of their brand new call center job ...

Would you not be better off letting anyone apply and perhaps doing a little work in vetting candidates, rather than abusing the large pool of unemployed grads, you might get a few people who are a bit more committed to the job.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,819 ✭✭✭K!LL!@N

    That's exactly what i'm doing.
Pulling pints for 10 euro an hour.
So this job seems pretty attractive, i'm not taking a hit in pay and i'm doing something that might actually look useful on my cv.
Anyway, i've applied and have an interview tomorrow.
    Wish me luck. :)

Is there any flexibility on that start date?

I still have my job from college, and am rostered down for full-time hours next week. So earliest I can start is Monday week.

I'll give you a ring later anyway :)

Is the job in Eircom, by any chance? And, do you still use CRM as the payroll management company? Because if you do, I'd warn anybody going for this job to be willing to endure dodgy payment conditions, to put it in a politically correct way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,549 ✭✭✭The Brigadier

Yes the job is with Eircom

/me shields himself from torrent of rat bashing

It is run though a payroll company as are the majority of Contract positions. The only times there is confusion is when time sheets are not submitted on time.

    This thankfully happens very rarely.

bleh - if I had heard of this last week I would have applied.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 grimesy

I worked in eircom technical support b4, it's not a bad spot at all...

Still Eastpoint I'm guessing, if you live on the dart line you're sorted.

Thank jaysus I'm not studying IT in college though...

    just saw this thread...

i work there atm & ive gotta say that while it aint the best job in the world, u could do a hell of a lot worse for a first job.

I realise that call center work isnt the best in the world but as call centers go ive worked in much worse ones than this one.

just wanted to put in a positive note. :D

Nine more of these positions have become available...
