I came home from work yesterday and switched on the TV to find an picture add on the screen (cant remember what for).
I always leave sky+ on skynews so i can rewing when i get home.
    Here's the funny bit.
The channel was on skynews. I could hear the sound of sky news but the picture was this add.
I pressed all of the buttons and nothing happened until i pressed the sky button. Then it went back to showing sky news.
Now this is a problem if you want to leave sky+ on a particular channel and record to your vcr (for whatever reason).

I just want to know has anyone else noticed this happening to them.
Last night was the only time (so far) for me.

    A more plausable explination:

The sound is not MPEG2. The Picture is. Sometimes the MPEG2 decoder seems to crash if the signal is lost at a certian point in time. The sound recovers and picture shows last "key frame" till channel changed.

This can happen if a Rook or Magpie stands in front of LNB.

See this on Sky Digital box and also my PC receiver. The PC receiver will eventually recover on its own.

Sometimes the Digibox needs unplugged to "reset" the MPEG decoder.

(I think Sky are happy enough to interrupt Sky 1 and Sky news with adverts rather than a full screen popup that needs the Backup button etc !)

I think if you have a farm or waste processing facility (rubbish dump) you can get a Shotgun licence on basis of Crow Family being vermin. Aviod hitting the dish or LNB as it will impair reception.

That sounds like a plausible enough explanation.
Reminds me of the guy in dixons trying to sell me insurance in case a bird crapped on the dish. :)

    you were right.
I went home yesterday at 8pm and the picture was frozen on Skynews with the time of 12:31PM on the screen.

Still don't know what caused it though.
I hope its not a regular thing.
