More FTV Card issues

I have an FTV V1 card. A strange thing happened last night. That annoying blue bar with the message that viewing of certain channels will soon cease disappeared completely! It meant that I could watch the excellent 'Teachers' on C4 in its entirity followed by the end of a documentary on five. This is the first time in some weeks that I have noticed that bloody message hasn't been continually shown on ITV/C4 and five. Did anyone else notice this? Is there any (remote) hope that the switch-off of the V1 cards may not take place??

On a related note, I have seen that V2 cards can be purchased from a number of places. The price advertised was in excess of 250 euro (!!) which seems excessive to say the least! Is there any update on when/if V2 cards will be shut off? Has anyone heard of cheaper V2 cards?

    Thanks!

Firstly as decribed in a previous thread there is a way around the "message of death" on CH4. Simply hit the red button to bring you to interactive mode and hit the red button again to bring you back to full screen. You will no longer get the message screen whilst in the mode.

€250 is fúcking rediculous for a type 2 FTV card. I know the site your on about. One of the members PM'd me on the address.

Worse case scenario take out a UK sub with your credit card.

I too was surprised that there was no need to use the back-up button during The Bill on ITV1 last night - for the last week or 2 it was necessary to get rid of the annoying messages.

    Only Sky know.

I wouldn't spend ANY money (other than if I wanted a UK family pacK) as Sky can easily play the same game in a few months with P2 FTV or P2 ex UK sub cards.

BTW, they won't turn them off at all but simply only transmit the new encryption on the FTV channels, which is why the cards don't work on Welcome / Customer FTV channels.

    Banner removal:
Sky News: Pull out Card :D

C4 press Red, wait for Interactive and press Red for full screen.

ITV and C5: Be ready to hit Backup or get a very big pole and TV aerial ;)

I can garentee you they are lulling us into a false sence of security. We will either see the message back in a day or 2 or they will turn off the cards.

I agree with Watty though. Do not spend that amount of cash on an FTV card (that may be turned off soon anyway)

    Thanks for the replies folks.

Interesting that the dreaded banner still has not re-appeared. Has anyone else noticed this???

Looking forward to a "Doom free" "Rosemary and Thyme" tonight (Friday). The inital program of the series gave me "nintendo thumb".

Can I sue Sky for RSI?

I have a FTV V1 card in a box I got on ebay UK in June 2002 and it still receives ITV, C4, C5. The banner appeared for a few days then stoped appearing 2 or 3 weeks ago.

    Watty,

You might like to add Premiership football on ITV (Saturday and Monday nights) to your list of "press Red, wait for Interactive and press Red for full screen" things!:D

    Regards.

even if you were mad enough to pay that price for the card, who activates it to your box?

The v2 cards should work in any skydigibox mine does anyway. However I think that you would be able to find a cheaper way of getting a v2 card.

They may work in any box but i thought they had to be activated first. Mine didnt work for 3 days and my man in the UK had to ring the BBC 3 times before I finally got the channels

I presume you are referring to a card that is already activated?

£50 seems to be the average going rate fore v2 cards on ebay uk, would not bother with that myself, but £100 - £150 for a nice panasonic box with v2 card is much more tempting.

For €250 you could get a viewing card for much more exotic programming.
