He looks like a fat version of Bubbles. ;)

That was one fat and ugly kid.

And it serves him right, especially the way he was caught, leaving code that traces back to his own website.....

    Tubby is fat and dumb.

Not only is he fat, but he didn't write the orginal virus. Fatty only wrote, (copy and paste job) the B version, and "The B variant achieved only modest distribution in comparison to the original worm", says "Blackcode.com"

poor lad is going to end up working for the goverment . that r some big company

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 494 ✭✭Lukin Black

Doesn't matter how much damage it did - the intent was there.

Let him have a couple of months inside. Hopefully that'll put him off that kind of crap. Especially if they do to them what they did to those fellas on Oz :D

$158,000 fine? Does that cover all the infected computer owners' costs?

He did not write the original exploit so the "virus man" has not been caught.

Anyone figured out how much it costs to keep up to date with M$ patches for anyone usiing dial up ?

Also, the original MSBlaster infected over 1 million computers. His MSBlaster.B variant only infected 7,000 computers.

TBH, if you caught it, it wouldn't matter if it was only one computer that got it. I know it's small in comparison, but hey, 7,000 is still a large number.

He kept a list of affected computers on his website.
Any muppet who writes/adapts a virus and then fails (or in this case doesn't even attempt) to conceal his/her tracks should be beaten with a big stick.

Of course he had to be overweight because of course he's evil and 'into' computers
The media might as well do what they always do (stupidly) and name him a so called hacker.
    sigh..

All those whom write or copy virus, hack computers, create pop-up ads, and anything else that urks me as I use the computer shall be beaten repeatedly and visiously with a big brass orb on the end of a heavy pole around then head until all there corrupt little f***-wit brains are smeared and splattered all over the place. This only after a couple of weeks torture and beatings, adn starvation etc...

    Hum...

If people would keep their antivirus upto date ,and systems patched then most viruses and other exploits wouldnt get half as widespread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,400 ✭✭✭TacT

In fairness I had to use 3hrs 64K dialup to get rid of this turd's crap and as if that wasn't enough, they made me use task manager to stop this mad process thingimeejiggy! Mad ****!
    BURN!!!!!!!!!!!111elevel1n1n1nk1l;j1111

Exactly, its actually embaressing for ppl to suffer from viruses etc coz it just shows how lazy they are to update their antivirus software.

Fair point Rav. I'm not sure we should be giving him a round of applause and a pat on the back as some of you seem to be suggesting though; personally I wasn't aware that being "too lazy to update my windows" was a crime in the first place, never mind that this guy was really a heroic vigilante out to punish the evil non-updaters. Obviously what he really deserves is a medal

    the one patching by virus.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,502 ✭✭✭MrPinK

The guy that wrote the orginal virus didn't create the security hole, he just exploited it. Annoying as it was, it didn't to any real damage. If the virus hadn't been released then most of you would never have gotten the patch and anybody would still be able to get full access to your computer from across the internet.

    two sides to every story:

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/56/32635.html

I feel sorry for the guy, probably thoight he was zero-cool from hackers and is facing 10 years for it because Rupert Murdock's hired goons have no-one better to lynch-mob this week. That's a cell a murderer or drug dealer could be ocupying, but no, the Feds aren't intrested in stuff like that!

are you saying he is facing 10 years because of the media?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 364 ✭✭Matfinn

The way some of you are talking in here, I think you need to get off the computer and get out more. This virus is an annoyance, but it didnt delete any work you all may have done. Some of you have over reacted and need some fresh air. Taje it easy.....

    Matt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,839 ✭✭✭Hobart

Obviously you wern't infected Mattfinn. The virus is an annoyance yes. But it also means that companies I deal with have to spend tens of thousands of Euro each year on preventitive measures against the people who wrote and distributed this software.

Yes Microsoft has to share some of the blame. But tell them that. Target their IP and don't blast the world with this crap.

As for the little fuck*r saying it was'nt just me. Big deal. Off you go to your prision and knit some mail bags. That will give you a chance to reflect on the disruption tou caused.

I'm saying the media have an influnce over every aspect of society. If the media was not so obsessed with a stipud computer bug and made an effort to highlight real criminal activity, like pollution, illegal war, economic coertion, prehaps the focus of people would be on reform instead of getting frustrated over nothing and lashing out over a poor lad who had little to do with it. my 2 cents there.

Didn't know that he was tried and sentenced at this stage. And no he did not get 10 years for copying a virus. He will/has got 10(?) years for copting and RELEASING it. Big difference.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭sci0x

Yeah sorry i mean if he does get 10 years for copying the virus how long will the guy who originally made it get, if he is caught.

Actually I was, as were my 2 friends and my brother and my brothers girlfriend. I purged the virus myself from about 6 computers and helped out others over the phone in getting rid of theirs. All because Im a nice guy who doesnt take things too seriously. Granted you are annoyed, but the way some people are going on here...........

You may not have heard but it does alot more damage then you think after a while of it being on your computer or from going on the net trying to find out what happens it corrupts system restore doesn't let you get rid of it with that 'FIX BLAST' from Norton and doesn't allow you to apply the patch if its on the computer.

People have had to format their drives over this just to reinstall cause it also infects the files used to reinstall.

Personally I believe it was great how it happened and also the way it was spead so rapidly no one had a chance to react until it was to late.
The guy that wrote the orignal was thinking when he did it not like the second copycat he was just an ar*ehole no doubt about that.

It infected if I am right about 1,000 thousand computers a second then each one them infected a 1,000 and so on.

To the people that don't have virus scanners and don't update windows I would love to know why you don't because then it is only a matter a of time before you get hit by a virus. Also to them what happens if the next virus isn't so kind and decides to be a bios virus or a boot sector virus then your in trouble thats more then any partialy computer literate person can handle. You are then looking at bringing it to places like PC World and these are not even computer literate.

Then you complain why does Microsoft bring out software that isn't free of bugs.

Then it's why should I have to go on the net and spend my time downloading updates. If you are not willing to do this why not buy systems like Lindows or even better buy a MAC that hardly ever gets virus' and if they do its not as serious.
