Netsource and VPN

So I have gotten Netsource this week and I'm generally very happy with it. However I'm having problems with VPN.

I use VPN to connect to work and do some teleworking, however the VPN connection drops about every 10 - 20 minutes. It is very strange because the actual DSL connection remains up, it is just the VPN that disconnects. This doesn't happen on my plain vanilla56k modem, VPN works fine.

So it must either be my DSL router (a Draytek Vigor 2600) or the DSL network.

So has anyone out there be using VPN with Netsource and is it working alright?

Is anyone using VPN with this router and is it working alright?

    Thanks for any help.

So far the Draytek is excellent.

First of all it was very easy to setup, I had my DSL up and running withtin literally 10 minutes of taking it out of the box. The QuickStart guide is very easy to follow.

The web interface is pretty good and easy to understand and follow and there is also the telnet interface to it.

I have a colleague who has had this router for the last year on BT in the UK and it hasn't been switched off once and has never gone done. He installed it the first time and hasn't touched it since, in fact it is almost burried under a mound of papers etc, under his desk, always a sign of good networking gear ;)

The router is jam packed with features DHCP, DynamicDNS, NAT, Firewall, etc. and even includes a VPN termination server!!!

My only complaint is that there isn't a manual for the more advanced features, so I'm off to buy the O'reilly Networking and Firewall book this weekend. But of course you only need this if you are using the advanced features.

At e220 including P+P from dsl-warehouse.co.uk it is a bit more expensive then other routers from D-Link etc. but then it has more features and seems to be of a better build quality. It is more aimed at small business users and SOHO market then the residential market, however it also works perfectly there.

    bk,
there are some very good step-by-step guides to setting up advanced features, including various flavours of VPN on the Draytek site at:
    www.draytek.com.tw

and also on a UK site at:
    http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/vpn_examples.html

VPN disconnects can be due to anything from an idle timer to a mismatch in configuration between the vpn endpoints. Have you examined the information in the syslog tool that comes with the 2600s for clues? What is a the other end of the tunnel? What are its logs saying?

    Hope this helps,
    Ian.
