hi elexes, sorry to take so long in ansewring you but i had to look through my vast comic book collection to find something to relate to, (i say vast im mean 3 i just couldnt find the rite part!!!)

anyway, in issue 59 of wolverene and gambit, a Tim Edgeworth said this on a letter

"... but on the cover of issue 56, Wolverine has his claws coming out of slits in his hands rather than metal holes.." this is interesting, because this issue was released at the time of x-men the movie. however the editor has no reply to him, so i feel you are on to something.

    dont give up!;)

ps, dont you think that was a pretty good find, for a guy with only three comic books, and remembering this bit even though he hadnt read it in well over a year? anyway make mine marvel:D

I agree and think that there's too much which has changed in the comics relating to the films. The logan claws thing is just one thing. I don't like the new style of the leather outfits and more realistic looking characters. I always prefered the fact that the image of the characters reflected the fact that this is fiction and not real. That there aren't really super powered people running around the world, and each of the individual outfits gave a special feel to each of the characters. The fact that they all dress the same now and they're trying to look more real, it takes away from the characters and leads us more to the story line, which these days is less than appealing. Gone are the arcs of loner, where maybe wolverine would head out on a mission on his own followed by another x-man etc.
I wish they'd go back to the old method for the comics, and leave the films to people who are going to watch them.

The point is that Marvel have decided that as there is money to be made from the films that maybe they can get more people to read the comic if they turn it into a graphic carbon copy of the film. They're simply pushing away the old school fans.

The X-men always had a uniform so it's not much of a change for them.

True but the uniform was a school uniform as such, and when the students graduated they got to choose their own uniforms. I still liked the old blue and yellow get ups, it was a decent colour scheme for marvel. When they just made everybody wear leather, it became dull and lifeless. A great part of comic history and their entice, is the fact that the colours grab you and stand out as much as the character powers themselves. Take Sabertooth for example. His old furry costume even looking back now doesn't look that strange for a comic supervillain, but the fact that they've changed him to look more like a grungy wrestler has killed part of his personality. You could see his madness in his clothes, and I think people thought about that a lot when designing the original look of the character.

Take the old sketches for the X-Men issue 1 split series from uncanny. It shows how they designed each characters looks and gave them their own clothes based on personality. Now they all give out the same personality through look, and it's harder to find the real versions of them underneath that look.

    with regard too Wolverines claws
they have constantly changed down through the years as different artists have different ideas about them
in the original debut of Wolverine he is seen with very claw like claws, pointy at the top and widening at the base as they originally were going to be just weapons and not physically a part of him
other artists have created him with thin nail like claws and other have created him with blade like claws
so i don't think you can say that they are changing the comics to come in line with the movies per se
