Go to Las Palmas, the capital city of the island, there are some decent clothing shops and shopping centres there but there isnt really a huge difference in prices.

Although, if you buy a lot of clothes ther difference will be noticeable.

There is a shopping centre on the way to the airport from Playa Des Ingles (sp?). Its on the left hand side of the road from what I recall and there is a class sports store in there where you can buy everything from a sports gear to mountain bikes, surf boards and kayaks.. never seen anything like and they had some good bargins in there..

If your looking for some up market clothing, there is a small shopping centre in Maspolomas that had some designer shops which were expensive compared to everywhere else but still probably cheaper than what you'd pay in Ireland..

    Best of Luck,

    Tox

Cheers for that bud. I should have said, I'm staying in plays del ingles.

I'll check those places out though! :)

Well Las Palmas is only about 30-40mins on the bus from Playa Des Ingles.. but go early in the morning, as the heat in the buses can be a bit over whelming and doesnt make for the most pleasant days shopping when you get up there dripping in sweat... :D

So get the bus about 9ish and you will have time to get up there relax and get some breakfast and then most shops start opening around 10ish..

Will do......did you happen to take a trip down to Puerto Rico for a look? I recall something about them having decent shopping. Or maybe that was just a market......

Puerto Rico is lovely.. there are some nice shopping malls there but most tend to have the usual tacky touristy bits.. There are some nice shops alright scattered in between them.

Its not far from Play Des Ingles and the road along the cliff is amazing.. It is definitely worth a visit anyway, there is a fabulous harbour and marina there with some lovely restaurants and cafes along it.

But beware, bring your walking shoes, it has some seriously big hills there :D

Yeah......I think I'll hop on a couple of buses. It would be nice to do something besides lying at the pool and such!

if it's anything like Tenerife, they'll have lots of clothes shops run by Indian people who have all the clothes imported from India (lots of half decent copies of name brands, and other genuine name brands too).

they are generally pretty good places to shop as the prices mroe often than not are fairly cheap.

do make sure you shop around though, as there are quite often rip off merchants who will try and sell you anything.

also, it's worth striking up a conversation with them and depending on how confident you are, it's always worth telling them you've just moved out there and you're looking to get some decent cheap gear to keep you going in your new job as a) a dj, b) barman or c) an opc (timeshare tout). be careful about the last one though, as timeshare people can be a little, er, 'funny' when it comes to using the timeshare name. they seem happy to rip people off and cause fights all round the place, but don't lile others ripping people off in their name. :D fussy eh?
