NTL digital box from UK

    Hi there.

    Does anybody know if a NTL digital box (PACE) from UK will work on digital cable in Dublin? A friend of mine offered me his UK box -he's getting satellite.

    Are the channels tuned in the same manner? Will the box give me even the basic tv channels?

    there was me thinking cable companies owned the STB's. if i'm right how does he intend on getting away with it

    They do own them, but I've heard plenty of times that they sometimes don't come to collect them.

    Anyway, as far as I know the box wont work. However, if it does you wont be able to view anything on it except maybe TV3.

    In theory it would work (if ex-CableTel - not ex-CWC), they are the same boxes....

    However it is illegal for you to possess this box and to plug it into the cable system, as you are only allowed to use equipment supplied by the cable company to access the service.

    As well as this, without an authorised NTL Digital viewing card (for ROI) you will only be able to access TV3.

    I can assure you it will not work, as stated by another poster you will get TV3 and any other free to view channels.

    This was common when the first batch of new stations arrived.
    The box knew what was on the old basic pack but didn't know
    what to do with the new ones so it showed them.(don't know how long you'd get them for)

    Yeah, I remember that when the UK Gold etc batch of channels were added you could see all the new channels without a card for about a fortnight. They havn't allowed this to happen with the latest batch of new channels.

    It's not worth getting that box at all.
