i don't know if US politics are relevant to this forum but anyway

Austrian-born actor Arnold Schwarzenegger made a surprise announcement today that he'll run for governor of California. Schwarzenegger's announcement came after advisers and experts said the former bodybuilder and star of action films was leaning against running. Californians will vote in October on whether to recall Gov. Gray Davis and who should replace him.

I dunno. The idea that that joke about the Schwarzenegger Memorial Library from Demolition Man might come true...
    *shudder*

Now me, I'm hoping Larry Flynt wins it.

(Yup, he's running. So are two porn stars and 67 other people, with 180 more unoffically saying they're running but who haven't filed paperwork yet.)

I heard him on the radio this morning saying how he has more money than he could ever want and how he would govern for the people. Sounded refreshing. Perhaps he could go for Bertie's job if he doesn't get it? He could do any worse than that stupid ****.

Any ideas which Irish Actor we could get to replace Bertie?
    Colin Farrell for Taoisceach?

    Indeed
Coupled with the fact he is a (ex)bodybuilding freck... The perfect Arian Specimen. The American Jewish comunity might get worried.
But sure he is a Republician so there in safe hands...
IT will be a sad sight to see the only anti-war state in the US fall to the hands of the Infidels

    Pearse Brosnan more likely
But thankfully party politics ensures no popularity contests for the state leader...
Just wish FF would stop behaving like a golf club.
You see all those up and coming Political Business D4 heads in the colleges supporting FF on re-introducing fees... ffs

I just wish he would lay off the one liners.

actually should have a competition for what one liners he says.

    - I'll be back.
    - Uzi 9mm.
    - Remember I said I'd kill you last? I lied.
    - Hasta La Vista Baby (already said once)
    - Ice to see you
    - Ahh! My eyes! The goggles do nothing!

I surpose at least he is going for election than being a self appointed ego with a list of pet causes.

He's not that right wing he's gay friendly and belives in
womens rights to choose. Both of which the Reopublican party as a whole is supposed to be against. If he wins he may be a sort of indepentant Republican govener.

He's already got a successful day job. As a citizen (since 1983) and a registered voter he's as entitled as he wants to be to have an opinion AND a list of pet causes, whether he chooses to run for election or not. He's also coherent in his opinions (even when they're at odds with those of others), which is a lot better than just making pronouncements without doing any research.

He's a social liberal and a fiscal conservative. A little fiscal conservativism is exactly what that "progressive" state needs. I don't know if he would be a good governor or not but he couldn't be any worse than Gray Davis.

I'm not quite sure how far down the political road Arnie can go but the American constituion prevents him from doing a 'Ronnie Regan' and making it all the way to the whitehouse (now that would be cool!). He was on Leno last night talking about the election - seems as good as any of the other candidates

As a citizen, he is pefectly entitled to have openions. But many in showbiz world have a list of "Pet Causes" - so one year they might have one hobby horse and other years they may have another.

Fair play to him for putting himself before the electorate. But I think it is dangerous to use celeb status as a springboard for election.

But I surpose, writers & poets have done it - Even our own Dana has got elected.

He is entitled to be a republician. I certainly would not hold his political beliefs aganist him. He too is entitled to them.
