Mame being gay (as usual)

Been bored recently and thought i'd sort out my neogeo romset, put it into mame format, thinking that the neoragex formats were actually both incorrect and missing bits.
Couldn't understand why the mame sets and neoragex sets for the encrypted roms differed so much in size. I knew that it was only the encrypted files within each set that made up the difference as they don't compress to the level of the older format.
(~9% compression for a c1 rom in mame format to ~40-50% in the older sets)

After fiddling with the sets for a good while, and decrypting the various c roms, i noticed that thats the only difference. Hell, even winkawaks supports the decrypted sets (obviously it still requires the odd s and p rom here and there), but i had always assumed that these were just an option for ppl who didn't want to download the mame sets.

Anyway, the point being, why the hell is mame still using the encrypted forms when there is zero difference. The encrpytion for the c roms is understood anyway, and even tho using the set may be said to be "true to the original", it doubles the size of the roms and it takes forever for mame/kawaks/nebula to decrypt the roms each time you want to play 'em. Its just a further rant, my hatred for mame grows :)

Just stick with neoragex for neogeo emulation. It's a lot faster.

Nah, thats not the point. Neoragex is a shambling horror at this stage. None of the encrypted games run correctly on it, only hacks which are for the most part missing too much. Its really only useful if you're pc is that old, and we're talking 133 or something here!
It doesn't support rasters, decent blitters or anything really. Winkawaks or nebula or even mame will give you 60fps even on a relatively old system and give you correct emulation and options.
