Right I have had several conversations wiht people who are currently with out a face to face rpg group or have never paper played and want to join a group.

    Right so,
    Who are you,
    Where are you ,
What do you like or want to play.

this way hopefully new groups can be spawned, and I know not everyone lives in Dublin.

    Who : Specky
Where : Clane but being transportable that basically means Dublin / Kildare
Games : Being old as the hills (actually slightly older than some smaller less famous hills) I've played all sorts of stuff. A little rusty having not played a lot in the last few years.

My really extra special interests are in games system development/enhancements, world design, campaign building and scenario writing but time has not been kind enough to allow me to do a lot of these things in recent years.
I much prefer GMing to playing but am happy to be a player while I re-find my gaming feet.
Getting my hand back in again now so would be interested in playing just about anything but things about which I enjoy holding particularly lengthy and boring conversations would be Runequest, Call of Cthulhu, WRG 7th edition ancients wargames, Paranoia, Traveller, Fantasy Hero, Judge Dredd RPG, figure painting and ermmmmm.......almost anything else! Started playing SLA PBEM recently which is fun and wouldn't mind a bit of that F2F too.

Can host games sessions here as have plenty of space but you'd really want to have transport if you're coming to visit.

Would be interested in trying out new games as long the GM is willing to put up with stupid NOOB questions :)

    name: LoLth
    location: Celbridge
Games: original Dnd, AD&D, 2nd Ed, 3rd ed. (Dm'ed mainly)
CoC (not the D20 one, played and DMed), Traveller (all versions, played and DMed), tunnells and trolls ( yep, that old!), Vampire and Werewolf (played), Computer RPGs, no larping... unless you count paintball!

Currently: running a game (well, it's on holiday...RL interference) in maynooth (blanchardstown??) that should be starting a Rokugan (d20) series of shorts - though I am seriously tempted to start off an Arcana Unearthed game... looks fun :)

Yay! Tunnels and Trolls!! After I posted my entry I was thinking of editing it to mention T&T but thought "......nahhhh!"

T&T one of the worst rpg systems around but a fantastic selection of weapons and armour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,371 ✭✭✭✭Zillah

Thank God someone mentioned some White wolf games!! They are clearly the best systems (d20 ad&d, shudder). Regardless good luck with the games. I already have a large group that lives very near me :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 914 ✭✭✭Specky

specky, you're a fossil too huh?

fighting off the paleantologists as I type....

I'm finding it difficult to recall the details of T&T actually, I bought a copy for curiosity's sake way back then (I seem to remember there was some rather jaunty graphic work on the front), got it to go with my "sad RPG" stuff, you know things like Dungeons and Dragons Bendi-toys (remember them????)...anyway, my T&T rules (along with a lot more considerably more useful and noteworthy things such as my original copy of Pavis for Runequest) were destroyed by a freak tempest that took the roof off the garage of the place I was living some years ago.

...maybe it wasn't freak after all and was in fact the result of some demonic activity...probably wouldn't have got far with the insurance claim if I'd written that on the form though...ho hummm...

Wow, that's quite a few. So is there a chance some of us could meet up? I'm very noob but would definitely like to try it out. As I've said I'm in Dublin and am free most evenings, so if anyone is interested let me know and maybe we can organise something

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 914 ✭✭✭Specky

I'm pretty much up to my goolies in work at the moment but if someone can come up with an evening or weekend venue, even just for an exploratory chat I'd be up for it.

    Let me know

likewise specky im wading through a big pile of *r@p on my desk at the moment its orginazed chaos

but i'd be free pretty much any weekend to play and most weekdays once i get my car,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 914 ✭✭✭Specky

    Car? CAR?? NOOO!!

You don't want a car! You want a nice van, a green paisley painted one, and you want to change your name to Fred and get some friends, two girls (one of which would probably be a lesbian) and a bloke with a dodgy beard.....and a dog, a large brown one.....then tour the country looking for spooky mysteries to uncover, especially around old fair grounds or abandoned mines....

...now that sounds like a whole lot of fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,236 ✭✭✭AL][EN

    sounds like a plan so,

under on condition there is to be no mention whatso ever of scooby snacks the first person that does im going to tar and feather,

    but your plan...... intereges me!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,236 ✭✭✭AL][EN

so were agreed then its a nice van, a green paisley painted one with a giltter ball inside with a vynel of best hits of the 70's looping over and over again.

Also we get to send the dog into mortal danger and almost certian death with his sidekick human friend and watch how the humerously run away and JUST about get out of each predicment alive, whilest somehow trapping what ever evil monstrocity was chasing them thus sloving the whole mystery in the
    process!!!.....................................................
    ...................................................................
    ....................................................................
...............................and we make them do this every week!!

sorry today im a Vengful DM full of rage and spite mercy has no place in my world,

ive been working non stop for 4 days slogging away 3 hours of overtime a night!! im pretty exhaused at the mo

...and of course, most importantly, each adventure must end with the words "....and I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for them pesky kids....and their dog!!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 689 ✭✭✭Evac101

I am going to suggest a meeting for a Dublin Boards D&D group.

Monday 6:00pm at SPI on the Quays...

Anyone who is interested come along and we can try and form a group over a pint or four......

Anyone interested pop your name below...

Sorry, but in London that time
:( Won't be able to make it. Have fun though :p and I hope to meet up with some of you soon. I'm really interested in getting a game going no matter what version of rp it is.

Anyone who is interested and can't make it pm me and we can get an idea of whether this is a goer....

Well I'm interested but not monday....and not D&D (sorry, Mr Gygax and I have unresolved personal issues...).

I've just found myself a new gaming group thanks to boards but I'd be happy to "put it about a bit" so to speak...

Am working on a new CoC campaign at the moment if anyone's interested. It'll probably take another month or so to get organised (have work up to my squashy parts at the moment and wifey about to pop sprog in a couple of months so a little busy), otherwise I may be willing to join in elsewhere.

Name: Earthhorse (not sure of the point in this as almost everyone's giving their username!)

    Location: Ballinteer, Dublin

Games: Call of Cthulhu, AD&D, Shadowrun 2nd Ed. and loads of others at cons. (they're listed in order of familiarity).

I'd be well up for Cthulhu if a group was getting together in Dublin.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 914 ✭✭✭Specky

Sounds like people are pretty universally keen on CoC (phnar....sounds a bit rude when you say that out loud!)...

Gaelcon will be almost upon us by the time I'm ready to rock on the Cthulhu game I'm preparing I reckon....I hope everyone is patient enough to wait until then...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,236 ✭✭✭AL][EN

of course we are and if you feel up to it we could even start the CoC campain at Gaelcon and continue from there!!

ive looked at the line up for gaelcon and there isnt much happening on sunday i believe!! still should be a pretty kick @*s event it always is!

Seems like a distinct possibility tending towards a plan, the game plan is coming together nicely and I'm even finding time to do proper work on it...which is a little surprising given how busy work has been in the last few weeks....

on a slightly other subject did the meet up of folks that was to happen last monday actually happen or not?? and if so how was it???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 shahakran

Well, it's been a while since I could post but I hope things are still good with everyone?

Did the meeting go or not? If not what about Saturday 26th? If anyone has a preferred location or time just say. It'd be good to get as many together as possible and see who wants to do what and we can decide from there.

Who knows? Maybe if we're lucky we'll all hate each other on sight and start a huge PK LARP in the middle of the street :D

*goes searching for a rubber sword*

ooops just realised it should be Saturday 27th. Old age setting in again. Maybe that's why I can't find that stupid sword

Games played: Ars Magica, Vampire, Werewolf, Mage: The Ascension, Shadowrun, Middle Earth, Cyberpunk.

I used to play alot, but haven't played in abt 5 years. Would be interested in getting back into it for a while. Admittedly, i've turned into the 26 year old gamer, that i always found funny before...

I'd be interested in Vampire, Mage, or cyberpunk..

I've always wanted to, only ever brosed tru some of the books, It looked all detailed and chunky I liked 8¬)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,236 ✭✭✭AL][EN

truthfully EdBanger most RPG books you can buy are quiet daunting i admit that but i wouldn't let the pages apoun pages of stats and rules bog you down (thats only for the DM to worry about) :D

RPG'ing is about having a laff wit a few mates when you get together to drink some beer scoff down on some munchies and generally try to drive the DM insane as quickly as possible :)

seriously as ive said in umpteen posts before try going to one of the cons (gaelcon is up next) you'll see it can be quiet good fun
the books are really only for the DM's (apart from AD&D's PH and a rare few others i could mention) im a DM/player and i can tell you that when you play RPG's you rarely ever have to look at the books the only two things you need are alot of dice and your imagniation (well beer helps too) :p

    have you ever gamed before?
