saw it about 4 weeks ago on the day it came out in the US ( not to brag or anything!). It wasn't as good as the other two, but it was still brilliant and certainly did the job.

So weemcd, are you saying its already released in ireland?

I'm confused, one of ye are saying its being released on July 31st, while you, weemcd, say you have seen it in Ireland.

When exactly is/was the release date??

Hes saying that he was being an illegal muppet and downloading the divx. Some people cant wait a matter of days to enjoy it properly on the big screen - they prefer to see it in poor quality on their monitor.

    Imported from where?

It doesnt matter anyway, its still a bootleg and still illegal no matter what way you look at it. Its just that buying it means youre actually supporting illegal resellers, as well as everything else.

I read in some movie magazine today that the guy Stahl has signed a contract to star in a further two terminator movies. Damn bastards will bastardise the good name of the first two movies.

I've yet to see T3, what’s the plot to the movie without spoiling it for me. Here is what I was told today, which I found ridiculous to say the least.
The machines in T3 sent back the girl terminator to kill John Connor, but this terminator is sent back before Kyle Reese and the original terminator were sent back from 2029 to 1984, that is to say the machines have sent her back many years before 2029.

If I’m correct - which I sincerely doubt I am, as the source is quite unreliable, then wouldn't the girl terminator in T3 be less advanced than the terminator in T2. And be practically on the same par as Arnie. And why would they send a lesser advanced model back to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor, if they had more or less the ultimate killing machine many years before 2029.

Sorry If I make no sense, but I honestly cant believe they’d use that plot?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 767 ✭✭✭nesthead

except it, the film is ****e.

not written or directed by Cameron, absolute piss. Of course their would be massive inconsistencies on this terrible script, who the hell was it written by?

Your story in the spoiler is incorrect... if you want me to fill you in on the plot send a private message to me, I don't wanna spoil it for everyone else.

As for above, I believe that there is to be another Terminator to me made, i.e. a 4th one, haven't heard of a 5th though. I'm looking forward to seeing a 4th.

If they do make the 4th installment of it I hope they leave it at that unless they come up with an amazing storyline. I however hope it just doesnt turn into a cash cow and they produce 3 more films just for the sake of it to make a few more pounds.

I actually believed the plot I mentioned to be quite incredible, but the guy who told me about that plot was so adamant about it that he was nearly in tears after fifteen minutes of arguing it.

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

    He's wrong.

The plot is as follows: (don't read it if you don't want it spoiled, obviously)
The machines send a new prototype, the T-X, back from 2032, to kill John Connors Lieutenants, as Connor was unable to be located (although he remains the T-X's primary target). Once again Arnie is sent back through time to protect him.

Meanwhile Skynet has been created but has not been activated, the idea being that the destruction of Cyberdyne in T2 only delayed its creation a few years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 857 ✭✭✭kamobe

I saw it tonight, and I really enjoyed it. Loads of Arnie blowing sh1t up, which is all I wanted to see really!!
Not really a spoiler tbh, but it does slow down a bit during the middle, between nukes going off etc....

I came out smiling. If you're looking for plot/acting, why would you be going to see an Arnie flick anyway?

If you're an action fan you should enjoy this movie!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 3,290 ✭✭✭TomTom

I seen it, i liked, and i would not mind a fourth.
Ta hell with a story line, it fun fun fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭weemcd

having just watched the original terminator john connor looks alot like his father/friend from the future. very good casting there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

    Saw it tonight.

Its the best terminator film you can get without james cameron. Everything was there except those moments cameron creates (those moments of touchiness between john and arnie in T2. Reese and Sarah in T1) But overall i was impressed. The car chase scene kiks Matrix reloadeds ass. Best action flick so far this year.

I feel the ending is more of finale to a trilogy rather then open for sequel.
The ending with the nukes falling etc says no more time travel no more chances to stop skynet. Arnie aint gonna come back to save connor he is on his own. therefore unless they go for a terminator after his grnadad in ww2 which would suck or something thats the end of arnies "Ill Be BACK!"

if there are more films the title will change and it will be a series on John fighting the machines in the future (could work better as a tv series)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭weemcd

blitx kreig are you nuts!! you cant have a terminator without arnie

    in my opinion
i think 2 arnies will fight in t4!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

the last time we had 2 arnies the film was rubbish (last action hero)

I saw it on the 3rd of July in the states. I think it's better than T1 but no where near as good as T2.
    The end was very surprising

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 729 ✭✭✭popinfresh

I saw it there this morning, basically Terminator 2 with more up to date special effects. And the story is pants, just milking off the second 1. But good none the less :). By the way, I noticed this when watching terminator1 last night. T1 was suppose to be 1984. Therefore by the story John Conner was born in 1985. But a mere 7 years later (was it) he's 13. And in the latest film he's like in his mid 20s when he should only be 17. That's really annoying me now..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Caesar_Bojangle

John Connor is supposed to be ten years old in T2. But to be fair, and if my memory serves me right. There was no actual mention of what year they were presently in, in T2. So it may have been 1995 and not 1991.

By the way, I bought the 4 disc T1 & T2 box set in Extravision for €25 last week. I can't recommend it enough. There are ten hours of high quality extra features on it, which justifies the measly asking price of €25 alone.

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 729 ✭✭✭popinfresh

He says he was 13 in the latest film. And he was in junior high. Still a good trilogy though, I suppose it doesn't have to make sense :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Caesar_Bojangle

But in the extra features on T2, James Cameron - the guy who created it, mentioned John Connor is ten years old in t2, about ten times in the various documentaries.

    I disagree.
    Total Recall had a plot.
Conan The Barbarian had acting, just look at James Earl Jones in the film tbh. Brilliance!
Both the original terminator films had plot and acting.
Predator, and The Running Man both had plots.
    Fairly original stuff alright.

Frankly, there's a whole bunch of Arnie films that are quite honestly classic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭CivilServant

This film is ****e no doubt about it.

The unfunny throwback lines to 80s arnies movies just didn't work. It was trying to be funny and serious and god knows what. Comparing it to T2 which is what everyone should be doing because hey guess what that was the last one. Why are people saying that just because it doesn't have the original connors and James cameron at the helm that we should go easy and not expect as much? This is meant to be a continuation but really it's the end of a masterpiece.

Some things just shouldn't be done at all. The acting is too bad to call b-movie, the ridiculous plot line and reverse timeline. The best part is the beginning and rapidly goes downhill. The director obviously took a cue from memento. The only slight positive point to this movie is watching Kirstanna Loken on screen. Ooooh yeah!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Actually, one thing I really hated about it was the fact that they turned Dr. Silberman into a joke. He was such a well written character, that was integral to the plot of T2. And they just turned him into a bit-part joke.

I find that most of the film isn't given as much life, or fleshed out as much as the orginal 2 films.

I rather liked Nick Stahl though.
He had more of a likeness to Michael Beihn that Furlong.
And he probably would've been better under Cameron's direction, and writing.

Also, anyone think he bore a shocking resembelance to Deep Space Nine's Dr. Bashir?

And what, exactly, did they not turn into a joke?

I can not begin to express my hatred of this film... but something along the lines of 'WORST FU!KING FILM EVER!' comes close.

Myself and a group of friends made the 'mistake' of watching T1 + T2 back-to-back before walking into T3.... how foolish of us to think that watching the previous two films of the 'franchise' would actually be a good idea....

...well, maybe it was, because it showed up the third for what it was - a fu!king parody of the first two, and little more.

To all those people that say it was better, or anywhere near as good as the first two... perhaps your forgetting that they were in fact really good films. Well written, well acted, well directed, well photographed, exciting, entertaining, thought provoking action movies.

...in good conscience, not one of those characteristics can be applied to T3.

T3 was too short, the little plot it had was ill-explained, the acting was terrible.. as were the effects... and the editing was absolutely atrocious...

most of the 'action' scenes (and lets face it, thats basically all this movie was.. from start to finish) had me staring at the screen in confusion as random sh!t got blown up on screen... after about ten minutes of that there might be a slight pause so the audience can find out who's still alive and unharmed.... oh, everyone is alive and well... what's this movie rated again? 12A?... well that explains it then..... oh look mommy, more stuffs getting blown up....

And I haven't even mentioned ol' leather face himself.

Arnie, I had some faith that at least you would make this film watchable. But in hindsight, will you ever-so-kindly just FOAD.

..machine-like efficiency seems to have been replaced with a dry sense of humour (countless stupid one-lines that just don't belong in a Terminator film) and a inexplicable knowledge of whats 'cool' (the sunglasses at the beginning.. the T 'X'... what the fu!k do machines know about 'X'.. what does that stand for?.. Xtreme? Xtra?... fycking Xylaphone?!?... I'm sorry, I just don't get it.)

Anyway.. this is probably the longest post I've ever written.. and I really could go on... but I think you get the picture.

IMHO, this is the single worst film I have ever seen in the cinema. It out-does Godzilla and Junior on the grounds that it gets extra credit for raping and destroying what was once such a good story.

Johnathon Mostow, congratulations, you now hold the top spot on my Film Maker Hit List.... Joel Schumacher, you drop to number two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,530 ✭✭✭patch

    Well said Goodshape.

I think for me, what killed it was Arnie's piss poor one liners. WTF?? The guy has a few lines is all.... surely it would have been possible to write three or four decent lines? -Every time he spoke whilst some moron across the way laughed, I groaned.

This movie is crapolla. I can't believe so many people said it was a great movie.
They need to bring it back to basics the next time, throw arnie in the middle of silicon valley in the 80's or something. He was just an excuse to blow sh1t up this time.

The way I see it Arnie is finished now......MAYBE he has one more chance to make something decent before he goes the way of Segal, Van Damme etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Spacedog

Can someone set up a poll on this? (I've never done one) would like to see weather people thought it was hot or not on a colourful bar graph! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 382 ✭✭G

I agree with what Goodshape said (although I didn't expect it to be great so I'm not as pissed off) - the film is riddled with cheap one-liners and the script and cinematography are both terrible.

When you think about it, if it hadn't had that comical edge, crap as it was, you'd probably leave the cinema or fall asleep.

And they made it 12's rated, so we couldn't even see TX's deadly naked body from the front. Bastids.

    4/10. Booo. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

Well, there was always hope, but I didn't expect it to be great at all. I expected it to be pretty awful actually. But what I got was far worse than I feared, and I didn't expect that.

And one of the guys I was with did walk out about twenty minutes in.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

You know something else that bugged me about the film?

    The TX herself.
Oh, how poorly written a character she was, or more correctly, poorly designed. It's like some dumbass writer said 'Hey, lets combine the T800 and the T1000, that'd be cool!' Well, it wasn't... I mean, for all the advanced technology, and integrated weapons she was still crippled by the end of the film by a helicopter crash, and her primary weapon destroyed by a rocket. Pretty pure excuse for a so called Advanced Prototype considering the amount of **** the T1000 went through in T2, and in the end it took a steelworks to destroy him. The idea of a solid chassis just didn't cut it compared to the entire liquid idea, and how many times have you ever seen that before? My god, it was the most remarkably imaginative thing since the first film.

Put together in a fight, my money would be on the T1000

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,530 ✭✭✭patch

Yeah........and how come she could shoot bits off herself? And a fuppin flame thrower?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭padmundo

If you're looking for any decent continuity leading on from the other two films then it's just not the film to go and watch.

If you go to the cinema to watch what I deemed as a poorly written action flick based on a previous good film idea then you'll be grand. You will watch some decent action sequences and a bit of out and out carnage then leave the cinema happy, but not exactly enlightened!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

One thing I came out thinking was. The T-1000 would kick her ass, no questions asked.

But it was obvious that this Terminator film was aimed at children with wrestling toys who like to see stuff blown up, and not the people who watched the previous two films.

Arnies character was destroyed in this film.

    Oh an this
Arnie only manages to hurt one person in this film by holding his hand too tightly
