Come october I will have finished a Diploma in Mathematics with the Open University.
I already have a Degree in Computer Systems and I did the Diploma to have some math content in my qualifications. But I never really thought what I could do with it.

Now I'm at the point where I need to start thinking about what my options are.
Problem is when I think of maths jobs I think of Statistics , Actuary and Insurance.
Which I'm not qualified to do any of.

Can anyone throw out some jobs that I would qualify for?
I'm looking to get a job based on my Dip in Maths. I intend on continuing with the Open University to get degree in maths

    Flyz,

How did you find the maths at OU? Could you send on a link as to what you exactly did? Even if you couldnt find a job did you find it interesting?

Sorry about all the question but I would be interested in what you did but I am not much use for you :o

    What about the CSO???

Risk is a big maths area, although they look for quantitative people, not just maths so the maths and cs would be good together. It's also expaning due to Basel II and the current climate makes it a safe enough job in comparison.

    This is what I do.

Why do you think you wouldn't be qualified to do a job related in the stats, actuary or insurance fields?

I know one or two people who came from an engineering degree and decided to go down the actuarial route. Granted it would take longer to qualify as an actuary since you wouldn't have any exemptions from the actuarial exams (most people nowadays would do actuarial maths in college & get exemptions from the institute exams). Considering engineering is completely different and they can do it - you come from a maths and computer background so that would really stand to you.

Other maths jobs would be in risk mgmt areas, trading, etc. Quantitative Analysis is quite a specialised field and I think most places require you to have a quant degree or even an actuarial degree (the courses are very very similar).

You could always go down the lecturing maths route in universities?

You may have to do another course eg. book keeping or business studies course, that way you will have that extra bit of knowledge and qualification to do some accounts or payroll or wiggle your way into finance .....
You can do some of these course from home if you look up home study courses on the web!!
    Good Luck with it :)
