I have installed a few linux'es in the past. YDL, RH and Mandrake. But always on a dedicated PC. I now have a 2nd machine to play with machine with a dual boot of 98/XP on it and I want to add either Mandrake 9 or Red Hat 9 to it aswell. Whats the best way of doing this. 98 is on a 20gb partition and XP on a 60 partition. I've left a 40gb partition for linux.

just install your distro and then use lilo to set up how you want to boot into it.
Its fairly straight forward, wouldn't worry about it, just remember bootdisks are your friends.

One thing to look out for that some distros have options that wipe out existing OSs. Make sure you keep control over which partition linux is going in. Before any reformating occurs, you should make sure you can see all the partitions including the microsoft ones and the clear indication that linux is to be installed into a different one.

Apart from that it should be no problem especially since you already have the space available for Linux.
