    Thats a biased Cavan answer!

Stop living on the gallant John Joe PN! :D

From a Meath PoV, I feel its down to the fact that at some point, we did beat everyone, and as the SF side has been on the wane since 1999, revenge is very sweet. (Except for Westmeath :D)

And when you have had team members like Mick Lyons, Colm Coyle and Graham Geraghty, you sometimes have figures that don't endear themselves to other GAA followers! :D

because they have a reputation as spiteful and dirty players, deploying tactics like pinching, shirt-pulling, and all manner of niggly off-the-ball shenanigans.

Because they are dirty smelly farmers who are sponsered by a dirty smelly meat food processing company :)

I dislike Kerry more if that makes you feel any better ;)

They are disliked because they are cheats.
They have had alot of good footballers but they have used dirty tactics to win alot of matches.

    Bästärds.

It must be true when a Meath person says it! I can't imagine how those mentioned above could endear themselves even to Meath fans.

I think it's something to do with being Dublin's main rivals too. That's sure to get anyone a bit of stick although in this case I think it's more than justified.

'Niggly' is not a word i'd have used here. Criminal maybe!
Ah but in a game when most umpires are blind and video evidence seems a bit too much like a good idea they'll be alright for a while more!

meath were also known for starting games with 16 players, one wearing black.

Ah but they usually end up with 15 or less due to their combat abilities.

Just a question. When was the last time they beat Galway?

I personally don't mind Meath. Although I dislike one of there players immensly I've always liked there grit and determination. You can never write them off. They have also had some of the greatest footballers ever. Colm O'Rourke, Brian Stafford, Darren Fay, Ollie Murphy etc. I think it must be a Leinster thing. Kildare on the other hand. Bitter Loosers

    Thanks everybody.

I especially enjoyed the 'pinching' remark :D

I just think Meath aren't SUPPOSED to be good. They're not Kerry or Dublin or Cork OR Galway, why should they be the most successful team in GAA football in the past 16 years? (7 All-Ireland finals and 4 wins)

    The old Irish failing methinks.....begrudgery.

its attitude really....if dub were any good THEY would be more hated, but because they are poor nobody cares...its good to have a team u hate....I live in MEath and I hate the durty feckers :)

uRb@N is right, I hate meath. But then I was raised to hate meath. Since I was eight I have been involved in GAA and there is a mutual dislike. When we got involved in a though match we would often be told " time to use meath Tatics" .

In one case I had a mentor teach me exactly how to do a kidney punch...savage.

Another time we were in a leauge playoff and it was going badly at half time and we were instructed at if we had not made a comeback with 10 mins to go then we were to start punching until the ref called the game off !
and it actually worked, now I dont like those tatics I think its scum and its something Meath developed to a fine art. Armagh have also been accused of much the same but I dont think they have even gotten to meaths level. There is only one person to blame on this and its that fukin grey haired leprauchaun on the sideline.

anywho I think thats why Meath are the most hated team in Ireland and besides beating your local county rival your next team you like to beat is either Dublin or meath. For me its Kerry and Armagh but thats obvious...

so it's based on early-80s history. fair nuff.

i used the word begrdgery before, it's probably more like begrudging respect having read above.........(but for god's sake don't tell anyone you respect meath)

    as a meathman, i like it :D

in many ways yes I suppose it is respect.

One of the best memories of my life was going to watch
dublin and meath draw 3 times. I was actually playing at half time in the last match...you know those kiddy games !

    what a summer...

    but still...fu*ck you meath !

i've lived in meath for about 12 years and i hate the bloody team.... what a bunch of cheating mother fookers......

the thing that gets me is the complete arrongance of the team and the fans... in their eyes they cant be beaten... there is no team that is better...

i used to work in a bar where a lot of fans would watch the meath games and it made my day when the fookers got beaten off the pitch.... and i made a point of disaplying my enjoyment......

as for that lemon graham geraghty.... dont get me started.....

Dr Nick you will also remember that Dublin lost the forth match...not the best memory ever but thanks for opening old wounds !
