After reading a thread in another forum, i became curious as to why so many people browsed the forums on invisible mode. Why is it exactly that you do it? Also, on the who's online page, all those people who show up as guests browsing the boards, they are the invisible people ya?

After reading a thread in another forum, i became curious as to why so many people browsed the forums on invisible mode. Why is it exactly that you do it?

Also, on the who's online page, all those people who show up as guests browsing the boards, they are the invisible people ya?

i've always lurked on forums before signing up and taking part. i usually read for anything from a week to a few months before. gives me an idea of what a place is like, how people act there, whether its constantly interesting, whats the way things are done, etc.

some people read more than actually post, also why bother logging in if your only haveing a look and reading updates on threads ? plus after about 5 mins of inactivity, ie reading a thread not posting, i get logged out. Id say 80% of those guests you see are registered.

The number of named members listed as browsing the board is usually less than the overall number of members in the ''There are currently X members and Y guests on the boards'' message. The difference is the invisible members, guests are separate. Of course some of them may be logged out members.

Or else I just can't count

I think you are missing the point, i mean people who selext invisble mode in the user cp, so their name doesnt appear at the top of forums and the like.

Personally it stems from joining a community where newbie lurkers were subject to a lot of abuse. Since then I've made it a habit to browse anon if possible.

You need to get your post count up to 40 per day and then they tell you.
I browse in invisible mode, I set it when I reg'd first, I've no idea why though.

mabye they're thrill seekers being dangerous "im in here and nobody knows i am" kind of like having sex in public places where you could get caught or mabye they are closet cases who dont want to be seen browsing the GLB issues board either way who cares? not me!:ninja:

20 a day is tough enough as it is and I haven't come across anyone with a higher delta than me so I doubt thats true

I notice as the days go on it gets harder. First day it was a virgin field of untouched posts (possibly a bad analogy) but now as the days roll on I notice that I have less to post so eventually presumably it'll settle down to normal. I hope. :cool:
