I'm just wondering how police analysis fingerprints. How do they know if 2 are the same. I've heard they look at certain points on the print and if a few maths then they're said to be the same. Anyone know how the police do it? Any good sites? Also are toe prints similar? And are fingerprints random or what?

I'm just wondering because Eaveryone has 10 finger ans 10 toes and there's billions of people in the world and billions have already lived and died. With so many fingerprints, I've wondered what are the odds of 2 people having the same fingerprint. I still don't get why criminals don't just buy a pair of freakin' gloves!

In England I think they choose 13 distinctive points on a fingerprint, they then match this with other fingerprints to see if all 13 points match, if they do there is a 99% probabilty that the person is the same. However it has happened on occasions where two different people have had matching points. This happened in England a few years ago and caused them to up the amount of matching points from 7 to 13 or something like that. Other countries have different amount of points needed in teh fingerprint to be a certified match.
